FD NA swap parts list
Yeah, I know. Humor me — I’m doing this as much for entertainment as anything else.
If I were to get a 20b long block for my FD, what parts are needed to get it going sans turbos, what are the approximate prices, and where are good places to acquire these parts? Here’s a starter:
- Long block - ~8K - random JDM engine recycler
- Subframe kit -1.5-2K - Defined or REC
- ECU, 1-2K - Haltech 2000 series or ??
- NA exhaust manifold - Defined?
What about wiring harness?
Does the stock rad need to be moved?
Will stock manual tranny bolt up?
Oil coolers?
Cruise control??
Is it even remotely feasible to use a 20b regularly, and then put the 13b back in every two years for smog? If the answer to this question is "yes" doing so may be a real consideration for me...

to get a good solid rebuild from defined as example that's another 8k
Also, defined kit needs a shortened lower intake to fit the hood send yours in 450.. buy xcessives another 1k
depending on your fuel set up you will need all that taken care of. ~2k if N/A maybe not as much an issue
with defined kit the transmission will bolt right up.
Haltech 2500 for 20b and i'd get a harness from them probably also.. harness lets say another 1k depending on whats with.
depending on the number of tunes you pay for.. you probably COULD take it in and out but that would be a serious PITA.
just a few additional things to think about. I got my C series and another shell to put it in so I've had these thoughts... but if your keeping NA
then I, myself, don't see the point in all the trouble for nearly same HP. not that an ITB SPP NA 20 doesnt sound like sex on wheels though.

Radiator mounts are part of the sway bar brackets and usually are in the way of a 20b.
I don't recommend trying to swap back and forth, it's not as easy as just swapping a motor and subframe, the build would be compromised quite a bit in order to swap in a 13b and expect it to pass smog.
Do you even FD brah?

A 20b is a $30k commitment, and basically not "swapable" in any since of reasonable. If you have emissions (in your case visual inspection), and cannot register the car somewhere else, or can't do sniffer only, then you're boned. Basically everything under the hood will need to be custom. Stick to boosting the REW. At least you may be able to sneak that by inspection in California.
