Drive train recomendations
Ford 9" rear end. That's what anyone making huge power needs, at least when you consider the power they can handle (not sure of number, but most top drag racers use it), and the cost of them ($0-400 used)

RP makes chromoly halfshafts which could hold the power, but that STILL leaves the problems of rear end, and tranny breaking under the power. They're expensive though ($800) and for FD, which I have no idea if they would fit on a FC or not.
And I don't think that sticky tires are an option w/ stock or near stock drivetrain and a 20b swap.

Just a note people reading this thread may wonder, the length of a T56 transmission from the front of the bellhousing to the middle of the shift lever rod in the neutral position is 30 inches. I'm not sure what it is on the RX-7 transmission.

OK you post ****** stop talking about food. If you have to eat like that then you have no right wanting to fix up a car cause you cant afford it
Now 30 inches to the shifter.... anyone got a RX7 tranny out and can measure it for us?
And I wonder if the RP axles could be adapted to a Ford 9 inch or made to fit one? Guess I'll have to email Rocky about that. What about a Corvette rear end and maybe cutting down the vette axles since its already set up for an IRS ????? more musing on my part.

There is a GSL-SE tranny in the garage off of Zach's car... we put a T2 tranny in, so I am assumin they are the same length, or very close. I can measure it when I get home if that would help...
And stop talking about food, our cafeteria here at work SUCKS... I try and avoid it all costs, now you're making me go down there and actually eat lunch, DAMNIT!

That's interesting. It looks like the FC T2 bellhousing could bolt up to a '71-'73 RX-2 (top mounted starter) tranny. The gearboxes are not tilted like they are on '74-'78 ribcase trannies.
Or maybe not. The gerabox of a T2 tranny is tilted left and the RX-2 is tilted right. I'm sure something could probably be put-together, but it's probably not a simple bolt-in. I'm also not sure if an FC NA starter would bolt onto the T2 bellhousing and mesh with an NA flywheel.

i played with that when i mocked up the r100 for the 12a. the bolt pattern on the tranny changed for 74. they changed the size too, there are about 2 bolts that line up between a 73 engine and a 74+ tranny. you could take a 73 bellhousing and put it on a t2 tranny though.

I have an extra FD tranny in the garage. I just measured it at roughly 32 inches from the end of the bellhousing to the shifter. I say estimated, because I only have this 18" ruler on me and I need a tape measure. But its around there.
Now I know the FD and Fc bellhousings are different. One is longer than the other, but I really can't remember which was which.

I'd like to use the short '73 tranny with a 13B and figured the T2 bellhousing has the correct bolt pattern to make it all work. Now I just need to find out if it can be done, and which starter and flywheel to use (I know it depends on the engine, but you know what I'm sayin').

the bellhousings will interchange, i dont know if the input shafts are the same lenghts, but i think you would have to use the t2 flywheel diameter (for the starter) and the na disc to engage the input shaft splines? oh and the pilot bearing is different between 73 and 74+, but i forget if thats in od or id. ok its time to go to sleep my head hurts

They are the exact same. A 215mm disk will fit any rotary from '71-'82 and the splines are the same up to '92 NA.
So then I'll need a T2 bellhousing, T2 starter, T2 flywheel (aftermarket RB), NA splined disk, any rotary with an automatic counter weight (from 12A to 20B hehe) and I'm good to go?

I know there are 215/225mm discs with T2 (23x1")splines, for people who bolt T2 trannies up to N/A Ribcase bellhousings.
What Jeff20B needs is a T2 sized disk (240mm) with N/A splines, or a 240mm (9 7/16") diameter disk with a 22x15/16" spline.
As before, don't hold your breath. I tried looking for one and couldn't find.
Edit: Hmm... Dark Side thinking... 240mm is only 15mm bigger than 225. I don't know what the inside diameter is, but it'd be interesting to see just how much contact area there'd be if you used a 225mm N/A disk with the T2 pressure plate.
