Building a 20B

Alright guys, please excuse my ignorance, i did a search for this topic but none came up. I was talking to a guy on the BCrx7 forum, i forget his name at this time, but he told me that you can build a 20B out of 2, 13B longblocks, is this possible?? Now my technical lvl of the rotory engine is fairly basic, i know how they work, and i understand the principals of its functionality, but as for practical experience, i have little. Ive only had my FC turbo for 6 to 8 months now. Ive never done a rebuild, i havnt had my 7 long enough to have to do that yet. So if you guys know wether this is possible or not, and if so where would i go to find a manual or something like that on how to do this. I have a blown NA 13B in my shop, and im pretty sure i could pick up another one off a friend of mine for fairly cheap, so you can see how this info kind of excited me. lol So guys, let me know, is it possible? or is a no go?

Hey super rotor. I just bought a compression tested 20b myself and I've been searching for a factory or aftermarket manual for it but no luck. I'm also in need of a 20b throttle body and custom mounts to drop it into an fc. So I guess ill continue my search and good luck to you.

No. You cannot simply make 2 13b engines into a single 20b. If you want a 3 rotor, just buy one, that's the cheapest way to get one.

FWIW, the cost of the motor is a small fraction of the cost of actually making one run in an rx7.

You'd need to get a custom made e-shaft. Along with sorting out a way to deliver oil reliably to all the rotors, and you'd also need to worry about how everything is balanced. Long story short, buying one would be cheaper.

The good news: There is a factory service manual.

The bad news: It's in Japanese.

Nope. I had to have mine shipped out of California.

There are a couple of built 20Bs advertised in this forum. I don't know if they have been sold yet. Otherwise, you can keep an eye on eBay. Usually, you have to get JDM engines.

FWIW, you can save yourself a lot of time, effort and expense by buying my car:

Hey attila the fun, i have a japanese friend who can translate japanese for me. Would you happen to know where I could find this so called ''factory service manual"? I'm prepared to journey across japan in my samurai robe until I find it. HIYA!!! I'm preparing for a 20b rebuild after I rebuild my 13b and I need some specs. Thanx man, and keep on with your raids and senseless killing.

The short answer is "No".

Doing a quick Google search I found this link:

http://www.nopistons.com/forums/lofi...hp/t48188.html

The poster apparently has a FSM. I don't subscribe to that forum, so I couldn't get all the details.

Your best bet is prowling eBay and other auction sites. Look for FSMs for the "Cosmo" or "JC Cosmo". Another possibility is calling Mazdaspeed, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

If you already have a 13b engine and an extra center plate, it's actually not that expensive to get a short 20B kit directly from Jeff Bruce in NZ. One problem though, is that it's not just the e-shaft and extra rotor that you need, you also need the coils, injectors, etc. to go along with it. So in the end, for most people, it IS actually cheaper just to buy one.

I'm still searching for the manual. I found my mounts and the throttle body I was missing however my wiring harness is partially cut but without an electrical diagram im SOL. Does anyone know people who have one or are willing to make me one? Keep in mind that I am determined to take an imported 20b that has a few problems and making it new again. Long live 20b.
