Best shop to rebuild a 20b and why

Hi guys picked up a 20B about 2 years ago. Took it apart and stripped it to the bare long block, when I was ready to get it rebuild a lifetime opportunity came knocking down my door and had to take it. Now back in track and ready to get it done need some advice as where to send it and why. Im looking to get it freshly done with a mild port to make 500 to 600whp with a decent size single turbo reliably (is there such a word haha) Thank you in advance, looking forward to get the ball rolling asap!

PS. I live in South Florida

What is you definition of "best"? best price, best communication, best turn around time, best customer service,.......I tend to stay out of the "what is the best.....?" threads because it is opinion based.

Your HP goal is reasonable depending on the series.

You live in Florida, so Pettit and Kilo are local, either of them can rebuild the engine.

If you want to ship it we rebuild 20Bs all the time. Engine Rebuild

Thanks for the response Banzai, best pretty much in all the aspects you describe and you're probably right did not phrase iit right looking at it from that perspective. Would say that im looking more for a trustworthy and reliable shop that will not screw me over. My motor is an A-series, i know they're not consider the best but I was able to get it for a reasonable price. Would definitely consider you guys once Im fully ready for it. Thanks again!

Theres a lot of great shops, more than capable of meeting your needs.

Banzai did an excellent job on rebuilding my 20b, also, a Fast turn around time.

There are only a few shops whom I'd entrust my own 20B to should a rebuild become necessary. They are Banzai Racing, Defined Autoworks and Mazdatrix. I am not sure if Mazdatrix offers rebuilds anymore, but they are just as reputable as Banzai and Defined, no questions asked. But since you're in Florida, Banzai Racing or Defined Autoworks is the route I'd go.

Thank you for narrowing down my options guys. Dont mind shipping the motor out at all specially knowing that I will be getting a well put together engine. Have hear too many stories of people getting screwed locally so seems like out of state is going to be my option!

I'd be more concerned about who is the best tuner rather than builder. Any one of the reputable rotary mechanics can throw one together. Choose the builder that will do the tuning.

unless the rotary landscape has changed THAT much in South Florida since 2008, there are a few reputable places where you can get your engine built. i mean there are quite a few shady losers down there, too - don't get me wrong. i am fully aware why you want to be careful, and you should.

Banzai mentioned Pettit and Kilo (he's more Central than South), but CLR is/was down there as well. i have nothing but praise for both Defined and Banzai, but if you would rather keep it local as opposed to shipping, you should be able to find a good shop.

you may need to check out the SE Regional forum and get some ideas there.

If CLR is a option then use him. Considering thats who defined goes through for balancing anyway. Carlos is on of the top builders in the world for rotarys.

Go to Kilo. You can check out my 20B while you are there as well as a few others in the shop. Pm me for details if you'd like.

When my Cosmo blew the water seals I brought the whole car to Roger at PROs (previously JapTrix) in Riviera Beach, FL. I expressed my concerns about being extra careful as it is very hard to source parts for the car even in Japan. He said not to worry he would take great care and that he did. When one of my friends looked at the bay he said it looked as if the motor had never left the car. He did an amazing job and gave me great piece of mind with a year warranty and even offering to tow the car back to the shop if anything feels a little quirky on the drive home. It felt great. A few weeks later the stock bov blew out and he gave me support on the phone to solve the problem and even offered to tow the car if we couldn't figure it out and replace the bov. I told him he didn't have to as it was probably just the age that led to the failure. He 's a very nice guy and really puts your mind at ease.

I also bought an 87 TII from him that he had rebuilt. Again, very clean job and the motor runs amazing to this day.
