20b vs. 13b

Hi guys. I need some advice...I have stock twins, stock motor, and cat making 330 whp. I'm ready to move on and make more power but want to keep it drivable and fun everyday. I also want to keep the twin sequential set up. How much power can I make while keeping the sequential twins? Also which turbo set up do you all recommend? Lastly, what's the break down cost of a 20b? I'd be interested to look into that as well. Thanks a lot everyone.

I see you live in CA, which means you need to pass emissions. You can get close to 400whp and a little over 400lb-ft tq out of the stock 20B-REW with the stock twins. Good luck sequencing the turbos, lol.

I don't understand what you mean by "which turbo setup". The 20B-REW only came with one set of turbos.

There is no breakdown cost of the 20B conversion because it depends on your assets and how you perform the conversion. If it helps any, a used 20B-REW in sorry shape is about $2,000, and a professional conversion is about $35,000.

Evil A,

Thanks for your input. The "which turbo setup" I mentioned because I'm thinking of keeping the twin set up but don't know what is out there. Financially, a twin sequential set up is my first choice. The 20B is something I'll have to dicuss with my better half. What do you think? Any experience with twin sequential set up that can get me close to 500whp? Thanks again.

Hey Evil, there's a thread flooting around in the 3rd gen section with a guy who got 400 rwhp out of a stock 13b w/stock twins. I think his name is Boostin 7. Surely a 20b is capable of a little more stock than a 13b. Right?

Hey Homie If you do the conversion, and are trying to conserve money, I would stick with stock twins on the 20b.

t-von, if I stick to stock twins on the 20b, how much power do you think I can make keeping it sequential?

If you are going to use a custom maifold, you only have about 50 different turbos to choose from, lol. If you are looking for basic guidance, a T66 - T70 would be good for moderate boost, while a T72+ would be for a highly-boosted drag engine. The optimal turbo for your particular application will depend on many factors, so it is best to let a turbocharger professional choose one for you. Yes, the stock twins are the best way to go to save money. I wish I went that route on mine, at least initially.

I think you should stick with the 13B if finances are even remotely an issue. I am not aware of anybody ever successfully sequencing the 20B-REW turbos with a standalone EMS. You could modify the stock ECU to work in your RX-7, but I only know of 1 person to do this successfully, and the stock configuration is only good for around 300hp. Were I to do it all over again, I would have just run the stock turbos non-sequenced until they burned up, and then I would have forked out the big bucks for a single turbo conversion.

The 20B-REW has smaller turbos than the 13B-REW, so the 13B-REW will have a higher total mass airflow with everything else being equal.
I guess anything is possible, but I think 400hp on the 20B is about all you are going to get and still pass emissions. I am certainly not an expert on the subject, so I could be wrong. Pettit gets 550hp from their 20B-REW, but I don't know how it would do on the sniff test in other states.

I really don't have much input but, http://fc3s-pro.com has a pretty basic price/equipment breakdown for a 20b conversion. I think it came out around $12-13 grand if you do most of the work yourself. Now, i tried the site recentlu and it wasn't coming up but, if you searced and tried it again, it might work.

Sorry if it doesn't work, but i tried.

Thanks everyone. I just included what mods I've done on my signature. I think I'll start a new thread and maybe I'll be able to get even more feedback now that I have listed my upgrades. Thanks again everyone! Keep your input coming!
