Question 20B Tri-Rotor

Does anyone know where i can find a 20B tri rotor out of a mazda cosmos? How much will it cost? Will a Nissan Skyline R34 vspec 2 motor fit in to a 93 R1?

Thanks.

Uhm, I'm assuming your new.

For the looks of it you are.

1. Very few people attempt this expensive task
2. No one has done this.

If you're new to the car. Don't try either just yet.

If it had custom engine mounts and just about everything redone would it fit? Will the size of it fit? Or is it to big? Would i be better off fitting one into a supra?
Thanks

Uhh I don't think the RB26DETT will fit to well but I've never seen it done. But judging by SP's 2JZ FD it might be a pain in the *** to make right. Oh and don't forget to take into account how much a skyline motor weighs.

Oh and since it's never been done by anyone on this forum yet, that means you will probably have to get the measurements of the motor, where the motor bolts to the frame, bellhousing and transmission measuring and do some measuring to figure out if you can get it in there. Head to some nissan forums, figure out what transmission would be the best for using the motor in RWD vehicle and see if anyone can measure the motor for you. I'll warn you though, it won't be cheap.

Anything is possiable with money.

How much do you want to spend? Becuase it would probably just be cheaper to sell the R1 and buy a Motorex car...

Oh it will, but you'll need serious mods, it's not a simple "bolt-in" engine swap....

Why insult the FD by putting a piston engine in it?? Especially one that was made for an all wheel drive application, which an FD will never be? I understand it would be all kinds of sweet to have it just for shock value, but you'd be better off throwing a 20B in there. And it would be cheaper in the long run. Best of luck to you either way bro.

I was just wondering if the skyline motor would fit because i have one i was going to put in my supra but then i sold the supra and so now i was just wonderin what to do to my RX7. I know it would be a dis to the rotary by puttin a piston engine in there but i would just love to pop the hood and see the look on peoples faces when the see the rb26dett sittin there. So does any one know where to get a 20b from? KAS RX where did your friend get his from?

they're right it is hard to make things fit in fuinny places
personaly it took a whole crap loadof time and labor and favor trading for me to fit my 20b into my crx, removal of the front clip, subing front and rebuilding with tube stock, scavinged suspensionn parts from my old fc3 thats just the front not to mention putting in a tunnel and the rest of the rwd mod's

hey mad what are you doi'n here lol

The RB26DETT gear box issue is simple, just use a 25T 5 speed from behind the RB25DET, once again, if costs is an issue, get someone out of the US to do it, You guys get raped for labour and us kiwis can do anything

persoanly I would sell the RB and get a 20B, weight factory, and ultimately costs will be lower than building a strong and powerful RB26

All this talk about the 20B engine & swapping it into the FD (92-02) RX-7.

What a pity you guys will never experience the car it was made for in the first place. The JC (90-05) Cosmo.

Read all about it at DMRH

You will also need to swap the RB25DET oil pan onto the RB26DETT. It's a direct bolt on pan. The 26 has the front axle stuff in it, so thats why. No problem at all.
Tones of custom work to do RB26 -> FD swap. I don't know of anyone that's done it yet, but there are probably a couple out there. If someone just asked me out of the blue how much I could do it for (with me doing all the labour) then I'd say I'd need $50,000 (which includes the price of the car). But I'm sure lots of guys will quote more than 50. You can pick up a used imported 26 engine for about $4,000 american dollars.

Don't even think about the 4-rotor. That's a custom made race engine. There are probably about 0-2 RX-7's in the world using the engine (26B) and 0 of them would be street cars. The cost of doing this I'd say would be around $100,000+. The cost of this engine alone would be between $8,500 and $50,000 american depending on it's specifciations.

It sounds like you really need to research into this and gain all the information you can. Just use the search functino of the forum and do as much reading of the 20B section, Rotary Performance Section, and 3rd Gen section as you can. Of the engine swaps you mentioned, the 20B is the only realistic one that makes sence in terms of cost and difficulty. You can do a 20B swap as low as $15,000 (not including car) if you do all the work yoruself, buy some parts used, and really search around for deals. If you want to do it right, and use some good parts, then you are looking more in the $25,000-$35,000 range (not including car). There are some issues that need to be addressed for the swap (engine mounts, swaybar, oil pan, room up front for big enough rad and IC, new transmission if you plan on making over 500rwhp/tq, rear end and tires issue, stand alone EMS).
Like guys said, it's not a simple bolt in. It's not a complete custom job either though. Do some research before you get too into it. You can take a 13B engine (2rotor) to quite impressive power levels without hurting it's reliability that much. Guys have made over 400 hp at the wheels on it with as little as 12 psi. Potential for a streetable 13B is about 650 rwhp if you run a bridgeport and higher boost (1.3 bar).

Hopefully this write up helps you figure out what you want to do.
