20b Gas Mileage

The more i read into the awesome 20b the more i want to get one, but one question still remains. Is a FC with a 20b engine still a streetable car? and what kind of gas mileage will i be looking at?

yes, its like the stock t2 except more power everywhere and properly tuned 14-16 in town and 17-20 highway, thats of course driving like a normal human, if you drive it hard its gonna be like 6mpg

wow i would expect a stock t2 to get better gas mileage, I was thought that 20b's would take about 50% more then a T2 cause of the extra rotor.

A better way to look at it is to think of fuel usage as a function of load, rather then displacement. If you're just driving around town, or maintaining a certain speed on a highway, you're going to be placing the engine under the same load weather you're using a 13B or a 20B, so they'll both use similar amounts of fuel. However, if you're at WOT the 20B will use substaintially more fuel, as you're be making use of its full displacement.

Because the 20B has more rotating mass, more surface area with which to send heat to the radiator, etc, etc. it will be inherently somewhat less fuel efficent then a 13B given the same load, but the difference isn't that great, and with better tuning of the partial throttle maps and opening up bottleneck in the exhaust, etc, you can more then make up for them.

well the limit seems to be this:

on a 2 rotor you can run say 15:1 afr (give or take) without bucking. the 3 rotor will also run 15:1.
but since you have an extra rotor, it will use more fuel per rpm. in a 2 rotor car i get 20-22mpg in mixed driving and 23-25 freeway.

What type of gas milage does the cosmo get? I would think a 20b in an FC or FD would get better gas milage since both cars a lighter that the cosmo.

just from doing simple math its a 1/3 more gas used but you have to push the gas less to do what the 13b-t's were doing.

DMRH, not all 20B's were taken from stolen Cosmos. I'm sure many if not most of them come from legitimitly totalled Cosmos in junkyards, etc.

Its just like how not every Honda B18 comes from a stolen Integra.

Yes, it is a streetable car. Without flared fenders, though, to allow wider tires, you'll be covering those streets with lots of rubber.

In daily commuting (about 80% highway), I get about 13.5 mpg. Best, observed mileage was 16 mpg on a trip down I-95 to Florida.

well that day has come and gone.... any cosmo owners need parts??? calipers, brake stuff, gauge cluster, etc etc

cant wait to get the motor in the project car and see how low my gas mielage will be. with the price of gas these days $2.50 for premium, i wont be driving this thing much.

You know, this cry baby thing is getting old...

I welcome you to convince the **** US EPA and DOT to allow importation of the 20B JC Cosmo into the US with reasonable prices.

I have no problem buying a legit JC Cosmo *IF* it were legal and decently priced.

Right now, all of the are priced over $10k, and they are all basically illegal.

The next best thing is to stuff it into an RX-7.
Light weight...
More sporty design...
Better suspension...
Better looks (subjective)...

To bad Mazda never made the 20b available as a factory option for the 3rd gen. Hmmmm think how easy it would have been to mod that car to 400+ hp with just bolt-ons

ive actually seen one... but i wont start that again cause its way off topic... lets just say it was HIDEOUS!

back on the thread, yeah i would love to buy a real cosmo (not half of one) but the cosmo IS heavy, remember that. if you want a fast car the cosmo is not it... it weighs too much.

Oh yeah, DMRH i have some pictures that will DEFINATLY MAKE YOU "WHINCE".... just take a look ->
