Unhappy 1st tranny now dead.

After reading a few theads about tranny upgrades and starting to make plans, My tranny let go tonight. I was at 17psi and 3rd gear is now gone. Has anyone made any headway on a t56 install, or has anyone had success with aftermarket gearsets?

This was done the first time I tried 17psi. It was from a roll in 3rd gear starting at 2500rpms and floored logging in the AEM for tuning purposes. It broke at like 5.5k . I've been running 15 psi for a while now no problems racng from rolls a few out of the hole. I ususually launch at 4.5k with the 2step and dumping the clutch with M/T Drag radials. It has taken that abuse for a while.
Power wise I never had it on the dyno with the new turbo. I've raced a 622 rwhp 89 Turbo trans-am w/ t72, C5 w/ bolt ons & spray and would pull away from them, I was going to race a 04 cobra w/ t76 (replaced the supercharger) that night making 844 rwhp. Thats why I wanted to get it dialed in at 17psi to have a better shot.

I guess you got to pay to play

The Acostas have a straight gearset that is said to hold 1000hp and it's the cheapest on the market right now.

Hey 20B do you have any idea on how much the Acosta Trans costs price+labor? I've heard it mentioned a couple of times but haven't found any info on it.

I talked to Bubba at G-Force Transmissions today. He said it would be about $6500 to $7000 for a t56 with all the fixings and lakewood scattershield w/ motor plate. I also received info the Acosta / Liberty gearsets. The power ratings are simular but the liberty is a dog vs. synchro. Decisions, Decisions, I know the t56 will take the power, but the liberty is about $3k less than the G- Force. I am going to research the TKO 600 now. There are a few mustang w/ superchargers that hae them that I know. The only complaint is the high RPM shifting is a little touchy.

Have you looked into anything like a WM6 (I believe they're called) from a Camaro or Firebird? The only thing I'm aware of that would be an issue is the sheer length of the tranny and shifter itself. I know for a fact that they can handle rpm's up to 10K since my shop's camaro does just that.

Just curious about what you find as myself and another are looking for a complete transmission swap from bellhousing all the way back to half-shafts for ours (FC and FD).

http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-5.asp Have you talked to G-Force about their T5 transmissions? For under 3K sounds pretty promising. There are a couple people out there talking about using this transmission but haven't seen anyone actually using one. On their site it claims to handle "the G-Force T-5 kit will handle roughly 600 hp or 500 ft-lb. of torque in a 3300 lb. vehicle running drag radials at the track with a moderate clutch upgrade." Sounds pretty good to me and if someone actually is successful with this setup I would like to know.

you guys should look at the getrag 6speed that comes in the turbo supras. . .those damn things are bulletproof, plus 6-speed.

a ton of those 1000+ hp supras have the stock tranny, not cryoed or anything, great trannies from everyone i've ever talked to or read about. you can find them pretty regularly on ebay for around 3K and brand new from toyota they're 5300 plus shipping of course.

http://www.kennedyeng.com/other.htm Try them for the adapter they are cheaper I believe and you can pick up a T5 from a Mustang for cheap and the gearing your gonna have to talk to G-Force about that but they have extensive experience with rotarys. Man if you go this route keep me in the loop because I've been looking at this setup for awhile. I have 2 TurboII transmissions to break before I seriously look into this setup. Need to get the car runnning first to break something. LOL. But yeah for under 3K I think this setup would be great. The street setup G-Force T-5 Synchronized Upgrade Kits is $1600 with a used case.

If you swap a g force in a fd what would you do with the power plant frame? Is it needed?
