I found the right hardware at Lowe's!

I'm still not sure if I need to use welting or not. I have 3M double-sided, paint-removing, strong as hell tape for securing the flares (other than the screws...). It's like $30 from Summit so I'll just go pick it up and see what it does.

My biggest concern right now is what to do about the fender liners. I brought up the idea of getting sheet metal or aluminum and just cutting and bolting (or welding) custom sections to cover up what is now exposed, but I don't know if that's the best way to solve this problem. Ideas?

Looking good. Not sure what you should do about the fender liners though.

One thing I was thinking about is, has anyone thought about using fiberglass to extend the fenders so the work with the rx-7 lines better?

I think going the fiberglass-molded route is something people do when they are making a custom widebody or something similarly intensive. I'm no fiberglass expert so I took the easier way out!

Fiberglass and the poly flares don't mix well. Poly has too much flex and the glass doesn't bond to it for long. As far as fender liners, if you drive in the slush without them, it packs up in the door hinges and can refreeze. I have yet to make the front liners for the widebody. I drove it in the slush once, damn near had to crawl out the window cause I could only open the door about 6".

looking good man! this is on my to do list, but with it comes wider wheels and tires and money i dont have right now.

I like the way the hardware you used looks, but arent you worried about how far the screws stick into the wheel well?

the easiest route for the inner fender wells will probably be modifying another cars plastic ones to fit your car, or making some out of sheet metal. they definitely need to be removable though.

I actually picked up a shorter screw for that very reason . I really wanted to show the caps off in that picture, but you're right, they are a bit long for the application. I originally purchased enough just to do one fender and then went back and bought shorter screws and more caps.

So you think it's worth it to try and modify the existing liner -- why do you think removal is important?

I would definitely atleast try to mod the existing liner. You never know, it may be easy to make fit. That or go to the local junk yard and look and see what might fit off another car.

Well, what if you dent the fender and need to swap it? It would be a total biotch if you couldnt remove the liner without cutting it off. I just like to plan ahead, and you never know if youll need to take that fender off or not.

That's a good point about having to replace the fender. See? This is why I ask so many questions!

I appreciate the advice

Now about finding the right wheels. I resurrected an old thread (https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/wheels-suspension-geometry-vneverbeendonebefore-727708/) -- this hasn't been an easy decision and unfortunately there is no wheel database worth searching.

I am HORRIBLE when it comes to wheel offsets and all. I was even worse when I was trying to find wheels for my 5 lug swap.

When I was trying to find wheels I just made sure the wheels had 4-4.25" of backspacing, with as close to 4" as possible. I ended up getting my Work Equips from:

www.pandagrage.com

They had great service and I got a good deal on them. They are far from perfect, but theyre just what I needed. Since they are three-piece then when I do go flared i can just buy new lips and make the wheels as wide as I need.

How do you guys think these would look? The exact same as the regular ZG's but no bolt holes...

here are my ZG (got them from a junk yellow RX-3). Now I need to make a decision if I should install them in my other 2 RX-3s. The downside, I need to disassemble my extra set of epsilons to make them at least 10" wide and locate my extra set of snow plow airdam and cat tail. Having too many toys is not an easy task

BUMPITY!

Im in the process of mounting my flares currently. I need to figure out the thickness of the rear quarter pannel sheet metal. I want to use Nutserts to fasten the flares on in the rear, atleast on the ones where it would be difficult/impossible to get a regular nut tightened on. Something like this http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...sp?Product=655

Anyone know? I would love to order some tomorrow!

What are the specs on your tires and wheels? They look like a perfect fit.
