the rotor housings are aluminum, the end and intermediate plates are cast (steel)... and the exhaust port have steel sleeves in them. The rotors are made from steel as well as the eccentric shaft.

However, if you're a lucky rich bugger, RacingBeat sells Aluminum front, intermediate and rear housings which weigh less than the cast (iron, steel?) housings....

On the RB site, they say the original ones are cast iron, but keaponlaffen said they are cast steel... I could be being an Übus-n00bus but the difference confuses me... not that I really plan to do anything about it, at 1,500 for the aluminum plates, I'll stick with my own thanks

Jon

edit: I forgot to post the RB link for the side housings for everyone to see

I believe that the side and center housings are cast iron, rather than steel. Their surfaces are gas-nitrided to harden them and keep them from wearing as quickly as the old pre-RX7 housings which were not gas-nitrided.

Iron is a pure metal. Steel is an alloy of iron and other metals such as nickel
