Yay summer driving :-D

So, I finally got the RX-7 on the road for the summer today....

It feels so nice to drive it :-)

For those that don't recall (which is probably most of you) my '85 SE basically died while I was on the way to the DMV to take it off the road for the winter...
I've since replaced all of the clutch hydraulics and fixed some other minor problems (like intermittent starter issues)....

Only one major issue remaining (And this is where I'd like a little insight).....

When I shift (or rev the engine with the clutch depressed) there's a grinding/crunching noise.
At first I was thinking this was the pilot bearing.

The noise is significantly lessened if I double-clutch.
Does this mean it's syncros?
Or can it still be the pilot bearing?

Thanks :-)

That'd be my guess, but it doesnt explain why it grinds with the clutch depressed.
Hmmmm? Pilot bearing or maybe throwout bearing................good luck.

Congrats on getting it back on the road though,

sounds like what happened to me, though mine was failing clutch hydrolics.

Thanks, Alex-7

lol@calvinpaul ... there's a few folks around here that know what they're talking about... some day I'll be one of them :-)

OtakuRX-- It started doing this while my hyraulics were dying... and unless I've done something incorrectly in the course of installing the new hydraulics, I think this might be an effect of extended damage from the clutch not entirely releasing.

Anybody else have experience with this?

my turbo II had this same problem, it was the clutch release/or throw-out bearing, the outside part of the bearing had smashed against the inside of the bearing making it not want to turn....so if it doesn't want to turn and I press the clutch pedal in at idle when the bearing touches the pressure plate it acts as some sort of brake and the engine would almost die so i'd have to rev it. i bet a clutch job on a non-turbo rx7 would be easy, my only problem was the freakin' downpipe and im just an ameature when it comes to turning wrenches.
