He will always be a kid but why wait. I exposed him early enough (while working on my cars and shotgun ride) to at least know how what is involved. Besides, he is very well disciplined. Thanks to my good buddy Victor who owns the burgundy rotary 510 at 7Stock. He has been training in Gosoku Ryu-style Karate and competing in open and traditional karate tournaments since he was 6 yrs old, not to mention the Filipino Kali/Escrima and Pentiak Silat on the side. I hope that his exposure and training will make him a better person than me. We have a good father/son relationship.
PS...I always tell him that in case he brings home a girl, be sure to bring a woman for me .. lol

Hey Wacky, is your name Ben?
My friend David that got me into rotaries had an engine builder named Ben that lived in Puente Hills.
He built all sorts of cool stuff, the last project I saw was a bridgeport in a Datsun roadster. The license plate was RXRDSTR or something like that, pretty cool.

My name is Mel. I think its my other buddy Ben except I dont recall the roadster.
Ben Laudia or something like that. Flip guy, really cool, his kid was into martial arts too.
This is some time ago though, I was just beginning high school, so maybe 1986-1987ish. He had a bad *** Rx3 and some other cool things.
Do you know James Nagase and those guys? Vinny from AEM that used to have the 1200? I used to kick it with those guys back in the day, I even worked with David Sung for a little bit.
Man I miss Cali, can't wait to go back in January.

i know james and johnny, the powerhouse engineering guys. I grew up here in LA and went to marshall/belmont back in the early 80's. used to run around around in corolla's and old school rotaries all over LA especially in the silverlake/atwater area. to date, I tend to laugh since we were using old school rotaries to look for rival gangs.
look me up when you get back to LA. send me pm and we will hook up.

Oh now that is nice! Who built your 13B again? Years ago I had RR&R build a SP 4 port 13B for me. I used the Mikuni 44 and always wished I went with an IDA..
I'll prob go with an all motor 13B 4port again when my stock 12A goes (or just have two motors on hand
).
Is that PCV valve on the oil filler cap? How's that working for ya??
(BTW- How do you keep this thing under wraps from the Smog ****'s?? That IDA is gonna be throaty!)

it was built by Sidepex in Rosemead last December but being so close to work (3 miles from home), its impossible to get the 1,000 miles immediately. Unless i take it outside downtown LA area but due to traffic, forget it. But i think i have more than enough idle time on the engine.
Actually, I just drilled and used a fitting in the oil cap. I havent done anything to it. Initially, I used a mikuni and holley 600 but I didnt like the way it ran. The IDA came off my RX-3. Luckily, I had an extra 48 ida and just bought a manifold from e-bay for $165 inlcuidng shipping.

Is that strut bar custom fabbed? If so, do have any write-ups, measurements, materials info you might like to share?
The car is beautiful - very nice piece of work!
Will you be able to stand the first time your son takes off with tires smoking?!

My son's x-mas gift is appx 90% done. He is out of town; I hope to finish it this week. Its a big *** 13-B streetport built by SIDEPEX in Temple City, CA. 3-window bearing, modified e-shaft, pinned rotors, GSL-SE block converted to a 4port etc etc. I thought about keeping it for myself but I decided to do a streeported TII block with blow-thru instead. Here's a few pics of his car. Carb? dont know yet, I have too many options.

i tried to response yesterday but the server was in slow motion. the strut bar is a junkyard special. I paid less than $15 for it since its not even in their parts list. My bros and I have been planning to copy it but have to put it in hold due to too many projects. But if anyone wants the measurement, I would be more than happy to provide it to you. We can make the strut plates but have to use other material to make the cross bar as we dont have the equipment to compress the ends.
And yes, more than likely, I will need to adopt more kids since I need more tax shelter. Anyone wants to give me their SS #?

I'd be intereted in some sort of measurements...
What would be way cool, and would probably be used by several people on this forum - is a shock mount cover template. If someone could provide a drawing, we could create a .PDF file that you could download and fab a custom strut bar yourself...
I'd think the crossmember would be fairly straight foward.
Just a thought...
... and I'm sorry, I'm not attempting to highjack this thread...

Nice looking car... Did you give it to him, or keep it?
