WTF Water Pump Pulley?
So I'm adding an electric fan to my SE, but my water pump will only spin if the dingus the fan clutch bolts to is bolted to the pulley. When I bolt the pulley directly to the pump shaft the pump will not spin once I tighten it up.
WTF is going on here?

Old [Sch|F]ool
Bolts are too long and bottoming out against the water pump.
When you buy new bolts, get Allens. They're easier to tighten down.
When you fix that, make sure the pulley still lines up with the crank pulley. There's a slim chance that you pressed the pump shaft outwards slightly. Slim, but easy to check.

Yep, I'm a maroon.
Turns out the outer bearing on the water pump on the car was much longer than the spare I have so the bolts was using were about 1/32" too long.
On the other hand I'm surprised at how much snappier the engine is without the fan & clutch setup!
