WOW! Installed RB Headers

So i just installed my RB headers and P/S lastnight. yes in the rain. Were hardcore. Special thanks to my girlfriend, RX729, and his friend (tools). ; )

Left the air pump on and put back the acv or whatever that 5th 6th port thingy is on. ( Removing them is "wiring" them open or do you tie em?) Good or bad?

So whats the deal with the block off plate? Bolt it, leave it off? Any and all advice please.

Fired it up and the gasket selant smoked, the exaust sound was actually coming from the muffler (rather than the leak that it had at those two little cat looking thingys. punched it and damn it pulled, and fast sounds nice and muffled quietter that i expected. NICE VERY NICE.....THANKS GIRLFRIEND

If you got the full exhaust, the 5th and 6th ports should still be actuated by pressure through the tube that connects to the pre-silencer.

OK... I'm about to install the RB exhaust here in a couple months. Do they come with detailed instructions about how you should take off the air pump and other things after you install the headers/exhaust?

block off plate...i may be an idiot im not sure i put the racing beat exaust on, cut that pipe going into the pre-silencer,welded it closed, removed pipe and smog pump and put caps on air box.were hose went from pump to manifold and were pipe connected to silencer. do i still need a blocking plate, were does it go and could this have anything to do with why i can't get my mixture right
-thanks

1984se... wanna answer this one???

they do come with detailed instructions on how to install the headers. as far as detailed instructions on how to take off the air pump and other things... there's only so much on what they give "detailed" instructions on. they do indicate the locations of the air pump, ac/cv, etc. BUT it will take a bit of research and some of what you already know on taking these things out (if anything). hope that answers your question.

they need to be on unless your going to open your intake and pull out your the sleaves, otherwise your secondaries will stay closed. activate the accuator and "wire it open" this will cause your secondaries to stay open

share you thread its related :P

Why remove 'em? Mazda engineers put 'em there to give the engine more air at higher RPMs for a reason. Just hook up your presilencer to the actuators and you'll be fine

there's a bung on the presilencer that the tube (originally hooked to the catalytic converter, which you've now removed) connects to. This is the tube that goes up to the aux. ports actuator.

greater breathing at high RPM so the fuel/air mix can get into the engine fast enough, while allowing for greater torque in the low-end (below 3500 RPM)

Ryan..
Do you have the 5&6 port actuator tube sticking out of the P/S? If not, you'll have to get the header tapped and have the exhaust back pressure activate your 5&6 ports from there. I took mine to Mazdatrix to get it modified. It was $60 with the O2 bung. Maybe you can get it cheaper somewhere else. YOu can check to see if your 5&6 ports are working by zip tying the shaft and take the SE out for a drive to see if the zip tie has moved. Then you'll know if they are really working.

Like mantis said, the RB presilencer has a pickup tube to actuate the 6P.

If you buy just the header (No presilencer) then you need to have the pickup welded into the header --or better yet, just by the header from m-trix. They sell the RB header with the pickup already installed.

hey thanks for the more detailed suggestion. the O2 hole is on the header. on the presilencer theres a kinda of like a " [ " shaped thingy that has a hole with thread the hole does not go into the presilencer. what does that go to. bolt to the undercarrage for support. i ll just ask RB.

the key chains are great i love it. (purchased by christina)we should gotta deal though AL..7..she's so sweet. anyways i wish i could have made it to the meet so i could meet you but oh well.

Everything is properly installed per RACING BEATS INSTRUCTIONS. The O2 sensor is also connected at the end of the header where RB has the hole for it already.
So everything is PROPERLY INSTALLED.

What im wondering is what the deal with the Acuators/ 5th 6th port being wired open all the time is it good/bad? Anyways your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sorry if im confusing i dont im explainin it to well...thanks for your patience.

yeah crappy actuaors! what wacky said. they suck when i pulled them off to get to the upper bolts i was pushing that pin lever thingy and it seems like they need lubing...

so i soaked them in KY JELLY and put them back on??? may be they PUMP and glide alot better now........ j/k but they do seem like they need lubing seriously..

oh yeah another funny thing it was like 10pm when we were done so rushing to put it back and start her up i forgot to put the hose of that cylinder looking thing under the stock air box on and when i drove it it sounded like it had a BOV...seriously...pretty cool so i left it off....raatttttttttt tishhhhhh raaaaaatttttttttttttt tishhhhhhhhh.......j/k kidding again i put it back on it. sounded cool thouh. oh and raaatttt vs. rummmmmm cuz it has that pulsely sound now, but again suprisingly quiet.

If you want the bung installed on your headers, just to atlantic muffler. They can do it there and they have the bung as well. Got to be there early in the morning as that place gets packed on weekends even with 4 bays running.

Now for the oxygen sensors, autozone sells them for less than $35. Otherwise, have turboII call my cousin ray and he can get them at his costs.
