hi
i have a 85 gs 12a
the car starts great in warm weather. but after it warms up and you shut it off it doesnt want to start up until the motor cools. i had the compression checked and it is good according to madza. i put some carb cleaner in the gas and i sprayed carb cleaner on the choke, then it would start a little better after it warmed up. plus i replaced the anti afterburn hose. i have a k&n filter and a new fuel filter. one thing that i have been doing is i have been putting in 93 octane gas, after i read some threads today it seems that was a mistake. and i will change to 87 octane the next tank full.
Now that the weather is getting colder the car doesnt want to start on cold mornings as a matter of fact it wont start at all right now. i plan to do the atf trick tommorow. and change spark plugs afterwards.
i'm really confused about this that is why i was wondering about the premix and 87 octane as a possible solution to my problem.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Don

*scratches head* Perhaps the spark that you are getting isn't strong enough....of course the 93 octane gas didn't help the situation much.
At least your informed now and will be able to save some money on gas.
Running premix (2 cycle oil in your gas) won't change the situation. All it does is help lubricate the internals, burns cleaner, and less likely to build carbon. For example, the reason I run premix is that I have my oil metering pump disabled and installed a RB Holley carb.

I don't see how premix will make any difference, do you have the carburetor preheater hose intact? Also, low-octane gas is specified for rotaries, as you've already found out. I would suspect something may be wrong with the hot-start assist, or maybe your timing is too advanced. They start easier if the timing is slightly retarded. The compression is also usually a bit higher on a cold engine. Just some things to consider. -WG
