Would like members input about which car to keep?
Alot of you already know that a couple of months ago after selling off my 7's that I found a nice Sa. Then about 2 weeks ago I picked up a Se. The Se was going to be the donor motor for another members car but I have decided not to take the Se apart. Mainly because I do not wish to see another Se get parted out and go to the bone yard.
Since I will be moving to Central Oregon and the winters are pretty cold with snow and ice I probably would not drive the Sa 5 months out of the year. The Sa is an original Ca car with no rust. It has 266k on the chassis but the motor has 35k on a rebuild and the trans and just about everything on the car has either been rebuilt or replaced by the original owner. I have a perfect dash to replace the cracked one and some pristine original carpet to replace the worn out front portion. It has been repainted the original Daytona blue and has some chips and small fade spots. But overall looks very nice, it does not have the original wheels just the +1 Fb's.
The Se has 186k on the clock, I don't know if the motor is original or has been rebuilt. The person that I got it from never asked any questions when he got it from the previous owner. I do know the motor is in excellent shape with 115 psi
on the front and rear. It has been repainted and the interior just needs the driverside seat replaced and some other minor details. It is an out of State car with some minor rust on side near the bottom panel. It has some minor repair needs like rear axle bearing and maybe struts. Have not gone thru the car yet.
My thinking is that if I want to drive a seven during winter up there the Sa has the questionable brake system with rear drum and does not really stop all that well. It does not have the limited slip diff or the better suspension. And if I upgrade and change all that then the Sa is no longer a true Sa.
The advantages of the Se are the better/safer braking system with the limited slip diff and a better steering/suspension.
So that is where I am at. I would appreciate any input I can get and to answer the question why don't I keep both? I just don't want to have 2 sevens right now along with my truck.

I'm against parting out a car that is anywhere near restorable: it has to be a real wreck, like at the JY. Most of the parts a guy needs are available on the internet or at a JY, with maybe a little drive required.
What are you going to do with the extra car?
A car that goes to Oregon might accumulate a lot of rust, so it may be a sacrifice, Thus, I would tend to get rid of the SA to a decent owner because the SA may be the first FB to increase in value to collectors. Of course, that means you sacrifice an SE (maybe), but that's just the chassis so all the SE parts could be salvaged. Also, as you say, the SE is probably a better DD in Oregon.

And the manifold that was going on the 13b motor is now in my possession.

Neither of the cars are going to be parted out.

That's what I'm trying to determine.

I was thinking that about the Sa increasing in value. Although it has 260k on the clock?

Oh by the way the Sa has no rust, it's the Se that has minor rust.

I personally would perfer the SA, even though the -SE has its advantages. I see them to have the most "race car" look and build, besides the suspension work... wished they stepped up their game during the 79-80.
But if you are definately not going to change the suspension work on the car, then take the -SE. Will probably perform a lot better during the snowy/slippery roads.

Cali.... yummy. Never been there, but all that I remember about Cali is clean expressways with a couple of motorcycle cops (one white and one hispanic) saving people from the daily wrecks that happen there.
Ohh, almost forgot the question in hand. I really like your sa. Haven't seen the se though. Se's are a dime a dozen keep the sa.

Cali is not all its cracked up to be, especially nowadays. Besides there are alot of wilderness for me to wander around up in Oregon.
This Sa is actually the first one that I bought with the intentions of keeping. But I really like the sporty look of the Se and the pep of the Se motor. I'm sooooo confused.

Hard decision. First years or last years of the 1st gen's 7 year spread. I'd have a hard time, too. Unless I had to have the bucks or the space, I'd keep 'em both, too.
