WOT after punching it

ok here is the deal... my 85 is running good again but sometimes when i lay on it ill lift to shift and my rpm's will be pinned past 8k..i know this isnt good so i turn the key off and it revs down, if i turn the key back on it will be WOT again. It takes a min. or 2 for it to go back to normal..all of the linkage moves freely i think it might be something in the car..a float sticking or something..any advice would help.

clean and inspect the throttle linkage again ... do it meticulously, and check the throttle cable for any obstructions ...

if not, then drive it to some remote area and leave it there. if it finds it's own way home, then call a priest

Also check that your throttle return spring is in place, I had one come off and the same thing would happen.
