Thumbs down Won't Idle (searched)

hey everyone, me again with yet another issue :S this car has been a friggin nightmare since my engine blew.

anyway.. got my street port in there running okay on stock carb save the high idle.

swapped to my ported intake and modded nikki, (lathe'd venturi's) bigger jets, no rats nest everything taken off except the throttle cable and fuel lines. (and other neccisary crap) <-spelling?

anyway.. it won't friggin idle for the life of it.. read all sorts of threads, read stirlings Guidelines.. used what i had leared. still nothing.. the only way i can keep this car from dying is to adjust the idle speed up above 1500.

i have checked for vacum leaks, i cat find any, my carb has 2 screws in the middle at the base. one huge *** one (unknown), and the copper underneath of it (idle mixture i think).

i started with the idle mixture 3 turns out, wont start or run, unless i pump the crap out of the gas and crank it, then i have to keep my foot on it to keep it going.

i ended up getting to 8 turns out, thats where i was able to get it to sit at 1500 rpm, with the idle speed screw.

it's driveable now.. but a 2k idle is annoying and a waste of fuel. gas is like $1.11 per Litre (BC canada) friggin rediculous.

anywho.. cmon' u guru's.. Stirling, carl, anyone else who is a carb magician and i haven't heard from before..

HELP!

The big one is the idle speed one. Sounds like you have an SA carb

ive heard that with porting, comes higher idle but dont quote me.
did you use any gasket laquer when you put ur mani & carb back on? did you follow the right pattern when you bolted it up? (middle bolts, then criss cross with the outer ones) are they torqued to spec? (14-19 ft.lbs.)That seemed to solve my idle problems a few weeks ago. get some carb cleaner and squirt that **** around in there and see what happens.

Sa? wtf is that? hehe

and umm... the big grey one is idle speed? it doesn't seem to do alot.

uhh.. if that is the idle speed screw.. that could be why it wasn't running good.. maybe thats why she wont idle..

i'm gonna go tinker, that screw is tight.. all the way in.

funny thing is, it idles when i first put the carb on.

have you tried playing around with the dizzy? You may need slightly different timing with new engine.

i installed a new intake gasket, seems to have fixed it a little.. it will idle at 1300, but it's not a steady idle..

Funny thing: When i am pulling up to a stop light and using the brake, the rpm seems to stay at around 1500 until i stop completely.. then it falls to 900 or so.. and then comes back up to 1300. it's like the forward g-forces from slowing down somehow assist the fuel flow in some way..

the idle wanders back and forth between 1000 and 1300 all the time.. very annoying..

i know now it isn't the intake gasket.. what about the plastic thing that goes between the carb and the intake manifold.. is that supposed to have a seal? its just in there with the bolts tightened on it. i can't see how a peice of plastic would work that good.

if i can just pop some sort of sealer in there like GOOP or silicone (a very small amount) just to seal it let me know.

i have no idea what else this could be.. but this no idle thing is really getting on my nerves. thanks everyone!
