WIX Oil Filters

Went to the autoparts store to get an oil filter. Looked up the WIX filter and book listed part number 51356. Filter looks smaller then the NAPA filter. I did a cross reference with the store brand (made by purolator). Store Brand part 14459 lists the WIX 51334 as the cross reference. Checks the Purolator Site Part number L14459.

WIX 51334 is a larger filter. OD/ID of rubber ring is the same size as the 51356.

Anyone using the 51334?

I use the Napa gold 1347 which is the tall one on my vintage rotaries. It may or may not fit in a 1st gen depending on AC. It cross references over to the Fram PH2849A

1356 is the correct #. 1334 is a honda filter and we just can't have you using that, lol.

Some of the racers are running Purolator L20253, it's a very big filter.

Purolator web site gives parts number L14459 or PL14459. Using their cross reference WIX 51334. The 51334 is a little larger then the WIX 51356 with the same demensions on the rubber ring. WIX 51334 and Purolator PL/L 14459 are identical in size.

Do not trust cross references they are not always correct. The filter designed by wix for your vehicle is 1356 period. The internal bypass may be different and other factors are involved in a filter design, leave it to the experts by application.

Mazda changed the size of their OEM filters a couple of years ago, so there are probably a couple of compatible designs out there that will be a variety of sizes. I use the OEM filter myself, and if not that, a Purolator filter. Both are pretty small, but seem to work ok.

I've used the Wix oil filter and remember it to be much larger/taller than the OEM filter. Too bad I don't recall the part number. I would use it again if given the choice.

See my post a little earlier in this thread for a good one to go take a look at at Napa. Ask a parts jockey to get one from the back room if you can't find it on the shelf.
