Wiring Removal Advice needed.
I'm stripping my 79 for a full paint. I'd like to get the wiring harness out of the engine bay but can't figure out where I can separate it. Any advice is appreciated.

There is no SMC main disconnect, like on modern cars. The on-engine harness disconnects via connector X-01 and the Alt lead, but the engine bay/lights harness (termed the "front harness") is of one piece with the drivers-side in-dash harness, which includes the fusebox. It was installed during assembly by being fed through the hole in the firewall. The "in-pane" harness (psg side underdash and stero/console) and rear harness (pretty much everything aft of the doors) disconnect via X-02 and X-03, up under the dash.
Only way I know of to back-pull it is to disassemble much of the under- & in-dash electrial, then pull it back thru the holes.
