wiring omp open?
i decided to install the s4 omp on my new motor so that i can get away from solely premixing... now the question is should i wire the omp so that it is always open (even when the car is off) or should i go ahead and fabricate a linkage to go to my weber ida so that it is throttle controlled.?

A LOT of smoke, and about a litre of oil per fill-up, and possibly shot cat's.
That's what I was going through when mine was seized open, something fixed only this past weekend. As a side note, also sufficient oil to prevent the machine even accepting the Rex for the start of the clean-air test (the step that finally got me to fix it <grin>).
It's well worth putting the linkage in place. The Haynes manual has the diagnostics to run to know how to adjust it properly.

DON'T DO IT!!!
Sorry 'bout the shouting, but oil has to be delivered at a rate consistent to the RPMs the rotors are turning.
The OMP (Oil Metering Pump, referred to as the MOP in the shop manual, and in Haynes) delivers the oil according to the rate of delivery of the gas, which is directly related to the RPM made by the engine.
Premixing also delivers oil at the same rate as gas is delivered to the engine, which makes it safe.
If you can't adjust the OMP/MOP to deliver at the proper rate, by all means wire it full open - better blue smoke than a dead engine. But, if you are doing so, don't even bother with the premix, because then you are just doubling the amount of oil making it to the engine.
If you want to run premix, but have the MOP available as a backup, here's my suggestion
1) mix the premix a little light
2) have a wire running up that attaches to the MOP that can be fastened in either the "full up" or "full down" position
3) when using premix, leave the MOP at "full down".
4) If you have to refill, and have no 2stroke oil to add, move the wire so that the MOP is at the "full up" position. Like I said, better a bit of blue smoke than a dead engine.
