Wiring Harness swap

So... I have been dredding this one fr a long time. I have an 84 SE where the previous owner plugged the main ground by the passenger marker light into another plug. The out come was that it burned the main harness pretty good when it shorted. The only outward effect was that both marker lights in the front don't work. Other then that everything works. I know that the harness is messed up b/c where it crosses in front of the radiator it has burned through the harness.

I have a replacement harness so I think that the easiest thing to do would be to swap this in. The problem is it looks like it's the huge harness that contains the main fuse block and all. Has anyone actually changed this out before? Any advice on it, such as will I need to take out the dash and what not??

Thanks!
Bryan

i have done this when i swapped an SE engine into a 12A car (i have the thread documenting this here: https://www.rx7club.com/build-threads-293/85-l6-gs-se-project-restoration-822222/). the dash will need to be removed if you intend to replace the entire harness as the harness snakes behind the dash and over to the ecu...not to mention to the heater controls steering coulmn etc.. this is no easy task for the meek and requires no less than a day to perform. i would pull the radiator and pull the harness through into the engine bay and would remove all of the loom covering it. i would then inspect the wiring and replace each burnt wire one at a time by soldering in a new section of wire where it has burnt through. if the connectors are destroyed, you can replace those at the same time. i have a plenty of spares that could help you if you need. once the wiring is repaired, test it. if all is well, re-loom it and tape it accordingly with 3M super 33 electrical tape and route the harness back to its original location.

pulled a dash before and what not. Obviously, if i could replace a wire I would, but I have asinking feeling that a single wire won't cut it...
