Winter Car

What should I do during the winter? I'm getting the rust problem fixed, but I want this car to last a long while. Should I get another 7, drive this one or get a different used car?

Depending on how much your willing to spend, theres alot of good cars which could also be used as back up. For myself i have an 88' Caddy Seville. You can pick one up for like a grand... That's of course if you acutally wanna keep it AFTER the winter, or just wanna trash it.

Hmm...ok. Maybe I should get a VW Rabbit Diesel. They must get at least 45 mpg and the engine probably lasts pretty long.

Get a mid to late '80s front-wheel drive Olds or Buick with any V6. Cheap ($500 max if rusty), plentiful, very cheap parts, and an incredibly safe snow machine - IF you get decent tires.
I've had two late-'80s fwd Cutlasses, and have driven them through hellish blizzards. The one I have now (the mighty Snowstainer) I once used to bust door-handle level drifts and blaze a path into my old job's unplowed parking lot. Tranny leak be damned, it's a great car.

Right now it's in front of my house, unlocked, the key stuck in the ignition, with a sign on the window:
"DON'T STEAL - NO BRAKES" until I get another $20 caliper on it.

Good idea! Although, I doubt I'd find one for 500 and it would probably cost a good amount to insure. Maybe I should just look for a Yugo.

Yeah, one of the Forum's FC guys, gtrr4, called on my GTU for sale and invited me to the Lansing meet. Too bad I'm putting a roof on my house that weekend, cause that would be a great place to advertise.

Banzai Racing is owned by Chris Sanders. His name is BlueTII on the forum. The shop is in monroe. He knows alot about RX7s and how to fix them. He also has quite a collection of parts. Let them know if you plan on going to that meet because they want a head count for food.

Nope the early ones had options of 4 banger (not in wagon), 3.0L V6 and 3.8L V6.

The 4 banger could actually come with a manual tranny. Quite rare and slow. The 3.0L is a better motor reliability wise than the 3.8L. Head gasket as a weak spot. The auto trannies are really terriable but live a little longer behind the 3.0L motor. I had a beater 88 wagon with a 3.8L for a while.
