Windshield wiper Arm rubbers

Hi everyone.
Some of you might know me from the headlight and wiper bushings. Wanted to post my latest project, the wiper arm rubbers. Haven't seen these available anywhere and mine where shot and hard as a rock.
Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-photo924.jpg

Just finished making these, still need to test them out for fit, but it's looking promising.

Still done at a low infill an thicker layer height to save on material while I test fit them.
Will post some pics once it all fits nicely.

Awesome, nice work. I was just thinking about those things a couple days ago. What are the odds that you could also make the rubber piece that covers the windshield wiper nuts? That way it could be a complete windshield wiper grommet set. Regardless, looking forward to seeing how these turn out.

Thanks.
Which part exactly are you talking about for the wiper nut? The part I am thinking of is not rubber and is available from Atkins for $4.

Perhaps I missed it, but I just checked Atkins and I don't see it. I'm referring to the rubber 'cover' that goes between the wiper arm and the spline casing. It's sort of like a rubber washer, but I think it more of a dust cover. It goes over the large nut that attaches the spline casings to the cowl. I did see the hard plastic snap cover on Atkins for about four bucks, perhaps that's what you were thinking of?

Anyway, I'll try to get a photo of it when I get home today. It's a pretty thin part so maybe it would be hard to print - I don't know much about such things.

Yes I was talking about the hard plastic snap cover.
If your talking about the last piece that goes on before the arm that's thin, then yes I'll be making that one too but I thought that was more of a hard plastic rather than rubber. Mine is damn hard. It could have originally been rubber and it's just hard as hell at this point. If someone can confirm if it's actually mean to be the same durometer as the rest of the parts, then that would be appreciated. I haven't made that one yet because I was looking for a hard plastic material with good UV resistance and did not absorb moisture. But if it's not hard plastic then that makes things easier.

I am assuming this is the part you're talking about? I printed it in the rubber like material instead of the hard plastic. I think it would outlast the plastic. Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-photo102.jpg

Ok guys, the test fit looks great.
I did look up in the old black dragon catalog for the wiper stuff and there is a nut cap missing.
Seem I never had that cap which is why I didn't know about it. If anyone has any images they could send, that would help me design it or I can just design one that does the same thing which I believe is to avoid water getting in there.
See the images and let me know why you think.

Those are looking good! And yeah, it was that nut cap you noticed in the old catalog that I was thinking of. I've got some spares somewhere that I'll take photos of if I can find them.

Thanks. If you find them send the pictures.
If not, no worries. I'll wait a few days and if I don't hear from you I'll just make my own design to meet the same intent.

The nut cap is attached to the wiper arm I believe. I'll have to look today and post some pictures of it.

I couldn't find my spares unfortunately, but here's a shot of the one on my car. It's a bit rainy here right now so I didn't really want to pull it off to take more photos - hope this one is at least a little helpful.

The piece is essentially flat until the middle where it pops up a little to seal around the shaft. I'll still look for mine, but I have a feeling they won't be getting found anytime soon. Also I don't believe that the cap is connected to the wiper arm. If memory serves correctly it's essentially a rubber disk that covers the nut and seals around the shaft, no connection to the arm.

No worries. That's works. I can model something similar to that and test it out. Thanks.

The wiper nut covers for the front wipers are Unobtanium as far as I can tell.

And the covers for the front wipers are different from the one that goes on the rear wiper, which is smaller.

It looks like KC has both types in his picture, the longer ones being for the front wiper and the short one for the rear:

The unit that KC linked above from Atkins Rotary is for the rear wiper only, it will not fit the front wipers.

This one: https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...34-76-641.html

Here's a photo of a pair of front wiper nut covers I've got in reserve and a couple photos of the nut covers installed on my LE:

Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-6wn4xq1.jpg

Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-thi59m4.jpg

Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-samglqt.jpg

These things are made of thin plastic material that breaks easily when they get old, that's why there's none left.

If KuTu can come up with a decent fabrication for them I'm sure the Rotary Gods will reward him in heaven.

Also here are some pictures of the rubber seal that fits on top of the nut that ties the wiper arm shaft down to the body and underneath the wiper arm itself:

Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-hg5wlsv.jpg

Windshield wiper Arm rubbers-hmthkky.jpg

This seal covers the nut that ties the wiper shaft to the body to create a water tight seal to protect the wiper shaft. You can see what it covers in KuTu's photo:

And you can see the seal installed in this picture from my LE, it's the top piece on the wiper shaft stack, immediately below the wiper arm and nut cover:

I'm a bit late here, but I just now found my spare rubber caps so here's a couple more photos to add to the design resources:

I thought I'd take some measurements so here's what I found (pardon the napkin-sketch quality):

Maybe those measurements will be of some use.

Thank you very much. That's perfect.
I'll get something modeled tonight if I don't pull my hairs out first with my no rpm sync issue with the ms2.

KC, Ray.

Thank you guys for these pictures.
I was not aware that the front an rear are different. My 7 did not come with rear wiper.
I always thought the Atkins one were for the front so i never bothered to make a replacement.
I actually found one of my wiper nut cover in decent condition. Luckily i had it stored away.
I am actually working on getting another printer that can print 50 micron layers and will be ideal for the wiper nut cover.
Originally i was getting it to make replacement electrical plugs such as for the wiper motor plug which it literally crumbled in my hand when i unplugged it.
Its still going to be a bit before i can get to that though. Still have not bought it and will require a lot of tweaking and refinement to get it right.
Will get a nut cover done today and post back.
Thank you all for the feedback, pictures and measurements.

Ok so I think I got something that works good.
Had to go thru a couple iterations and had to modify the design a bit from the original, but it serves the same purpose.
Let me know your thoughts.

Nice! Another Unobtanium part comes back to life.

Thanks KuTu, I'll be watching for them to hit the market.

Thanks Ray.
Without this community I would probably not be able to keep my 7 on the track.
I appreciate everyone's support throughout the years.
Will post back when I have a batch. I am estimating around 6 hrs to make a set so probably around a week.
Thanks again.

The parts look great, awesome to see you making more stuff like this - your headlight bushings are still going strong in my car. Keep up the good work, the community appreciates it.
