Windshield Tinting .........

Hey

I am going to replace my windshield.......The guy who tinted mine side windows said that this is all the rage with new up scale cars..........before they install them they put a light tint on them.....reduces glare at night

Anybody done this?

Anybody put a tint strip up on your windshield?

What does it look like?

Thanks

Jim

Check your local laws on windshield tinting. It's illegal here, but I have it on my Ford Screw. Very light (35%) but I never need to wear sunglasses in the truck.

35% is dark, isn't it? Limo tint is like 33% here Maybe it's just a different system....

My Screw has factory tint on the rear windows, so to match I set up:

No, you can't see squat in the truck.

isn't the percentage the opacity level? So the higher the number, the darker the tint? (I'm learning here....)

Supposedly, (don't quote me on this)

The percentage is how much UV rays actually
make it through. I have 35% 3M tint on my
    home windows as well.

ohhhh, ok.... hmmm... I always thought it was opacity (like airbrushing, etc)

Oh well, until someone else who specializes in this department can verify, we stand both correct until proven incorrect...

I went with "dark" on my rear hatch-and-quarter glass. I was going to go Limo, but the tint shop owner - who did it for $100 CDN tax in as he's also a drinking buddy of mine - talked me out of it. "It's too dark for your car. "Dark" will look great and you'll still be able to back up at night without needing a friend to get out and guide you".

Just as he predicted, it came out looking like Limo on the outside but I can still see out the back at night.

He's now offering to tint my side windows and windshield with light tint for $40. Says if all three are done and only with "light" it'll look like regular glass to the fuzz but keep out glare and UV.

My friend's camaro has dark assed tint on the hatch and windows, but not the windshield. You could see fine at night...

His was to the point where you couldn't see in from the outside. I'm pretty sure his tint had a purple color to it, though. Purple on a green car.

Don't tint thermo pane glass(home) caused mine to crack from not letting the heat thru. What I was told by the local glass shop.

3M tint shouldn't hurt anything, it's high-quality stuff meant for house windows. It's supposed to increase the home's efficiency in the summer by not letting in as much heat and light from the sun.
