windscreen wiper SUPER SieZe!
As per the title, my wipers siezed. I checked the fuses and circuits and saw no problems so I decided to take out the wiper motor assembly...
I tried and that thing just won't get outta there! It says in the Haynes manual to move the wipers up to about vertical, I assume thats so you can remove the assembly easier (ie. more space to wiggle it around) but as it has siezed spectacularly I can't move the wipers at all and can't get them outa that little space...
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Or maybe i'm just missing something...
guff

Remove it without having them vertical. Its a bit of a bitch but its doable. My motor was seized also and i just did some wiggling and pulling and it popped out.

hmm..ive wiggled for a while and my main problem is the threaded piece that comes through the hood and you screw the wipers onto...Is there any way of removing them?

You just have to push down prety good on the drivers side wiper attachment.
As soon as u pop it below the sheet metal you should have no problem getting the wiper rack w/ motor out.
In some cases Ive seen the racks seized up so good even a fresh wiper motor wouldnt break em loose. The problem lies in the sleeve that bolts to the cowl panel which the wiper drive post rides in, it likes to rust up real good.

Thanks for your help but I've given it a solid 2 hour session with bashing it and pushing it down but it doesn't seem to be able to get below the panel on the drivers side....
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Dumb question here, but ...
Have you taken the wipers off? Pull up on the cap and there's a nut there, unscrew it and then jimmy the arm back and forth, then the wiper arms come off. Then take the exterior caps off of the linkage. Then undo the 4 bolts holding the assembly to the car (after you've unhooked the wires from the motor). Tilt the thing so the left side goes down, and after a little jiggling, etc it will come out.
After you get it out, take the motor off. then spray the heck out of it with wd-40 or something similary and you'll be able to bust it free by hand.
Be very careful of the nylon bushings holding the arms to the link, etc. These are impossible to find anywhere without getting a complete assembly.
I just replaced these on mine, so ...

A small pulley puller, with the arms tucked underneath the flange of the wiper and the threaded rod on the wiper drive stud works wonders. I fussed and fiddled with one wiper for an hour before getting it off, took thirty seconds with the puller. Just make sure it's lubed ahead of time as the puller can provide enough pressure to seriously mess up the splines, etc... if you're not giving it a fairly easy job.

This one's not mine, but it gives you the idea:
Once you've gotten the cap nut off, you tuck the arms underneath the wiper arm and drop that threaded rod onto the stud. Then you just crank down and keep the puller pointed straight along the stud. If you start to slide off the stud, stop cranking, release the pressure, and try again. Don't force it and everything should just pop off smoothly.
