This event actually happened during the middle of fall so with cold weather I didn't worry about it too much cause I didn't them need to go down.

Okay, I've gotten mixed answers on this so I'll ask here as well, maybe someone else has encountered the same problem.

My power windows slowly go down, altho sometimes on a good day, they might go down at a near normal pace. But, usually, they almost seem to crawl at a very slow pace. Makes me think it's the motors. I won't even let them go all the way down for fear of having them get stuck. Going up, I think they pick up a little bit more pace.

So, with that said, would this be a motor problem, window channel problem, or window regulator problem?

 

i had the same problem. took everything apart, cleaned it all, and re greased the gears and tracks. works fine now.

 

clean the switches particularly contactors for pits and stuff. also, clean the window channels with lubricant for car soap build-up.

Would white lithium grease do just fine? Or should I get that Valvoline SynPower lubricant?

 

I use the white lithium, after a thorough cleaing with brake cleaner to remove all of the old gunk from the rollers, roller channels and gears. If that doesn't take care of, address the switches.

 

Theres also a writeup on adding relays so the load isint on the switches. I think its on Jim Rothe's page.

 

or go with a s5 alternator, i heard that works wonders (it specifically mentioned power window speed)

From my expierence's with my sevens almost all of them had window problem, after checking it all out this is what I found, The Regulator is the evil bastard here, Where the window regulator forms an X in the Center there's like a big rivet that holds it together after time that rivid weakens and the regulator those not go up or down sqaure, and also bends the arms when they go up or down.. I just got another regulator that was in better shape,,, Now you can have a number of problems like the other guys say so my opinion would be to start by checking what you think is easiest first till you solve the problem, good luck keep us posted

i just sprayed out the channels with a bunch of armorall (well actually it was something else, but a similar product) and that seemed to really take the wear off the motors. windows work fine now.

 

All three of my GSLs have had this problem. And all three were fixed by cleaning up the gears and channels, making some careful adjustments to the channel adjusting screws, with just a little bending of the channels when necessary, and lubing the gears with lithium grease. Made all six windows work like new, so I'd do this before working on the electrical and motors.

Thanks a lot. :icon_tup" I forgot about the cleaning up part but will do that once I have my Rex back (is in the shop awaiting new brake upgrade and having the rear axle replaced) and when warmer weather comes about.

 

Cleaning, adjusting and lubing the channels and regulators is a must but it still leaves a weakpoint the switches. It's a design flaw and they WILL burn out and get dirty requiring cleaning regularly. Adding the relays makes a huge difference and you'll never have to touch the switches again.

odd none of you guys mentioned the tracks being screwed. on my se all i had was issues with the power windows particularly the tracks being worn out so they wouldn't go up the same way twice. maybe it's just me. ha ha
