Window installation, rats nest, AND fuel cutoff. Oh did I mention....

Alot of you probably remember my thread about the broken air dam, and my thread about the kids who broke my window. Well last night it was time to fix EVERYTHING,

Foggy, but installed.

Factory style

Longest rats nest removal of my life. But worth it.

I figured out the fuel switch, but when I say figured it out I mean I totally rewired it. I dont need a stereo I suppose the note from the exhaust is enough

Next step:

Get some factory springs to replace the "lowered" ones, or in lamens terms the cut springs. Pretty soon this car will be in a professional paint booth. I cant wait.

Awesome awesome. Be sure to post some pics as you go along! And, great job on the install. Next thing to install is a special tear gas grenade with a hidden switch so that if someone opens your door, they get a good blast of tear jerking, mucus flowing, bad coughing fun!

^Yeah but if I did that I would forget its there and then it would get used on me..... lol!

Here are some pics for those of you who havent seen my other threads.
It was painted blaack before it was red, and the last paint job was applied with the body kit on the car, so after the air dam was removed it had a black nose.

A pic of the damage,

This is where it wasnt painted red

Oh, lovely.... This is what the kids did to the window....

Previous condition of engine,

Lots of work to come!

I JUST bought Greased Lightning Engine Degreaser. But first I need to replace a frayed OMP line and rebuild the oil cooler so I stop the oil leak.

Oh yeah, loads better. Every where the body kit was, was painted black. And there was some minor surface rust under the fender flares. So I sanded it down and threw some rattle can red on there temporarily.

^ I'll keep that in mind, maybe I will swing up there sometime soon.

Oh and just for your sake numbers guy, here are the new wipers

And I will be getting that stupid adhesive out of the window soon. And this thing fogs up like no other... There must still be some moisture in there somewhere. Probably because of rust near the storage bins because I fixed the hatch flooding problem.

When I get a new front air dam, it will all go back on. But it doesnt look right without it.... I will have the money here soon. Its just a matter of waiting on it to be shipped. And I am going to pull the engine and strip most of the interior so it can be properly painted. I dont like half assing things. I will have the body kit painted while it is off of the car. Unlike the guy you bought it from. That and I want the areas under the kit properly sealed to avoid rust. I will also be undercoating the undercarriage and the wheel wells. I told you I liked the IMSA look, and I will be keeping it. I just dont want to drive a Black and red car with a mis-matched body kit while I wait on parts. And I absolutely hated the look of it with no air dam, so I got the stocker. I think it looks much better now than it did all mis-matched and rusty.

It will also be recieving a nice big spoiler

I personally think it should remain dumped.

That and it was kind a bitch to do with a hand drill. :P

Nah, it will get slammed properly. ill get some Eibachs or some crappy ebay lowering springs for it. But I cant stand the loss in handling and driveability... Cutting the springs isnt really beneficial, you are still lowering the center of gravity, but you end up with an improper spring rate. So the car ends up being too stiff and that can be detrimental to handling. I think the Mazda engineers designed those springs with the car and its handling in mind. I do like the slammed look, and I like the fact that it looks decent with the 13's but I am DD'ing this car and I hate the ride quality.

I told you I would do this car right, and I will. I beleive firmly that if it has a kit it needs to be lowered, just because of the fact that it doesnt look right any other way. Its gonna take time, so dont expect a finished product to jump out at you. :P

If you think the eBay lowering springs are going to be better than the cut ones, you're wrong.

I maybe, but I am toying aroung with ideas. Besides most Ebay springs are Eibach, or at least the ones I have been looking at. I have some limited experience with Eibach, I like the ride quality much better with those than with these springs. Its really not good for a 20 year old car to get bucked aroung the way these springs do. I dont know if you ever took a good look at the drivers side control arm, but it was ready to rip out. I think it was a miracle it hadnt already. The body itself isnt very solid, On the surface it is, but it has a lot of body rot underneath that needs desperate attention. I am just lucky to have saved my old floorpans because the floors are ruined in it.

I think you need to realize this is going to be a ground up restoration, and its not all gonna be pretty. Unfortunately for the time being I have to DD it, so the process is going slower than I anticipated. When it is all said and done, this will be dropped one inch. It will have a new front air dam, identical to the old one, slightly larger flares. It is going to be Fire Red, and will have the interior completed. The engine will be rebuilt, with an all new bottom end, street ported, and probably have either the Nikki rejetted or have a holley. The engine will have the side housings color matched to the exterior paint. And the engine bay will match the exterior. It wont be overly fast, but it will be fun. I also want to source a GSL rear end, to at least get rear disks and limited slip, if I can I will source an SE rear end and front struts. And then I will throw some aftermarket wheels at it. Oh and it will have one of the spoilers VB, or now I guess BD offers

I am thinking about going TII but it wont be a wild swap, I would keep the engine mostly stock. For now Ill keep the 12A in it until I see what my cash situation is, because really that is the only thing holding me back. I have plenty of time space knowledge and experience. Its all in how much moolah I have, which right now isnt much..... but I think everyone here can relate to that. So give me some time, It will get done...

Did the clutch today, What a fun episode. Surprisingly the used clutch I was provided with actually worked. Somehow during the process the slave cylinder locked up. There was no fluid in the clutch master reservoir. I replaced the slave cylinder with one from BD and that solved most of my problems. The clutch master is ruined, it needs rebuilt badly. Also, the flywheel is ruined. i would say 85% of the teeth are worn down, so the starter doesnt always catch it. The starter needs rebuilt also, the overrun clutch is worn, so it doesnt stop spinning after it is disengaged. Sorry I dont have any pics, I was ready to go insane about halfway through this. However I am very satisfied with my temporary results. I say temporary, because I have to go through all this madness again.....

I have a spare flywheel if you want it, i probably even have a spare starter. That used clutch i gave you was in great shape, it was in my GSL-SE for less than a year.
