Slow Power Windows? Need to read this!

Well, like many 1st gen owners my power windows where getting ultra slow, if working at all. I've had a project on the back of my mind for awhile and I thought it was time to do it. So I pulled up an old article I had archived.

http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars...r_windows.html

This project took 30 minutes yesterday doing the pre wiring on the relays, relay sockets and writing out my wiring. And 40 minutes today pulling the seats and soldering all my connections. You can't even say it was night and day with this. It has to be 10 times faster then before. I've done it all too, new channel runners, adjusted the tracks, silicone the track and runners. And for a total of $2 per relay and $1.50 for each relay socket, its the best $15 and hour of time you could spend.

I bet you could sell them for $25 bucks easy if you were to pre-wire the relays for a straight "plug-in" connection to the FB's.

I know I'd pay it.

Freak, that would be nice. The only problem is getting the male and female connectors from junk cars. It would be an easy project to do and only take 30minutes for each set. All you would have to do is ground it!

I'm sure RadioShack would have everything you would need to fab up your own.

I would doubt that Radio Shack has 20 year old connectors, especially Mazda specific ones.

I am a automotive electrical technician, and have access to several parts cars. It would be fairly easy for me to prewire a setup like this. If anyone is really interested, let me know. You would have to wire in 12V (Ignition) and ground. There is room behind the radio for the relays, and it is fairly easy to get the wires from there to the switches in the center console. You could also get ground from the dash around the radio, and it is fairly easy to run the wire from here to the ignition switch for a high current ignition sourse. I have done modifixations like this to many cars, and there is an even better way to make the windows even faster(even on many newer cars, but it is a little harder as it involves running heavier guage wire into each door, and running a power source directly to the battery. I could assist with this mod as well.

Which ones would you need? The ones for the switches? Or the ones from the car?

I might have an extra pair I could provide as a "core".

The connectors are common items that should be available from any auto electrical supplier.

Theres no need to need fetch a 12V or ground from anywhere as they're already provided in the wiring harness to the switches.

If done correctly it's simply a matter of disconnecting the plugs from the switches and plugging the relays in between.
