window/door molding 78-85

Anybody know where I can get some replacement window stripping for around the window channels and on the door sills. I looked at JC whitney and found some universal stufff, that would work. Got it and it works but it looks really stupid. Thanks

These are useful links for a variety of stuff but after searching through them for awhile (and wasting time in the process) I can't find a full answer to the Montana kid's specific question about:

"the window stripping on the door sills"

That's the rubber strip that runs along the bottom of the window on the outside of the door.

This would be really nice to know if they are available from anyone except the Mazda dealers, who have begun gouging us to the max on OEM 1st gen parts.

Anybody?

Thanks
Ray

Black Dragon, page 9 of the latest catalogue. $14.95 for the inner or outer, that's nearly 2.50 to 3.00 less than Madzatrix.

Thanks Trochoid, that looks like the deal I've been looking for, I'll have to get one of those catalogues.

I paid $16 per side at the dealership which, once you factor in shipping, broker's fees, and duties, is far less than it'd cost me to order them online.

Funny thing is, though, the OEM ones are about a centimeter too long. It doesn't matter whether you start at the back of the door or the front, there's just too much material.

They do shrink. Mine were too long when installed 2 years ago, now they are short.

For installing or appearance? To install them, start at each end and work to the center. As one works the rubber in with thumbs toward the center, it will bow up. When it does, use the thumbs in the reverse direction to re compress the stretched rubber and pull the bow down. A little Vaseline/WD40 on the bottom of the rubber helps it slip in the locking channel.

Once they have aged, they will be short. Only way to possibly prevent this is to use a rubber adhesive, which I would never do. If they ever need replacing again, one will spend days digging and cleaning the rubber and adhesive out.
