Run my 84 GSL in Toronto winters and traction is rarely a problem. Clearance, however, is always an issue.

Driver, not car?

That is a good point you made... When I had my learner's permit, my stepdad took me out in his '76 Town & Country (think: 5200 pound, mid-70s fullzise station wagon from HELL) and we'd go out to a big parking lot and I'd drive and he'd tell me to avoid an imaginary car or stop before a certain point or whatever. Basically I learned how to kick a car around and slide it, and that the BEST way to get forward momentum is to burn through the snow to the pavement below. It's how I was taught to drive from Day 1.

Now... put me in a car that weighs under half as much and doesn't have all the weight at the extreme front and extreme rear, and I'm like a friggin' GOD.

I remember my first winter with the car, I was doing laps around the shop parking lot, in 2nd gear, full opposite lock, doing all of the controlling with the throttle. You can't BUY this much fun! I swear, this winter I'm getting an in-car camera.

BTW the shop parking lot was just two rows of parking spaces with a path down each side, so it was a lot like driving in an oval. "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend it"

Thats funny, PJay, I learned how to drive in a similar fashion.
My dad and I would go out in his old Volvo 260 sedan to the cinema parking lot. I was so little I could hardly see over the wheel, but I learned to drive a 5-speed and how to parallel park. I honestly think thats why I'm such a "good" driver today.
No accidents, no tickets, driving RX-7's since I was 15 now I'm going on 22.

'Round here in Minnesnowta, we call it "winter".

Can drive it and should drive it are two different things. It would be fun when you don't need to get anywhere on time.

I delivered pizzas in my first 7 ('85 S) and it SUCKED! It was fun when I was just fartin' around though.

If the car is already a goner (rusty), go ahead and drive it. If it's nice, don't introduce it to snow and salt., 'cause they will soon become best friends.

Take care,
