Widest tires for a first gen???
I want to make a first gen drag car and was wondering how wide a tire I could put in the rear. I'm not all that concerned about a large diameter rim because this isn't really going to be a glitzy show car; I'll use 13in if I have to. Plus, how wide a tire could I put under there if I took a hammer to a few spots?

13" will launch better anyways. More sidewall = more straight-line traction.
If you get the right offset, it looks like 10.5" slicks will fir back there.

And thanks for the help, Peejay.

Mariah(www.mariahmotorsports.com) makes some wide body kits that'll fit a good to huge amount of rubber back there. The Mode One special comes with 15x7s and 225/50s without popping out of the car.

Yesterday I got to see a '66 Chevelle with a new 502 big block in it. Damn, was that sucker sweet! Woodward in Royal Oak is the bomb.

I just got some 14x8s last week. Old slots (I like em!).
Wondering what size I can go with that won't hit the fender even if they do stick out a bit.
Problem is, I have Racing Beat springs, and they make the car just a tad lower.
I read about people "rolling the fender lip". What's that all about, how do you do it right, and what's it do for ya?

Rolling the lip, my ***...you take a hammer with a wide head, pull your wheels, wear goggles and bang the inside lip up then out. Start in the middle, go about 6" out in either direction for the next abuse to establish how far to push out the flair and keep repeating until you've covered the entire well. It's like stitch welding sheetmetal. Don't go in a continuous line or it'll be deranged. Once done, 225's will fit easy and not bottom out on the wheel wells or rub. At least, it doesn't on my car and I also am running the RB springs...

Well I have a set of BFG Drag radials that I mounted on the rear. size is 225/50/15, but it is very close. I did have to bang the lip up then out like mar3 said. Work nice though.

my Toyo Proxes suck
I'm running 235/45 13 NO NEED TO ROLL FENDERS...it's some all weather proxes but man those tires suck. I have no traction whatsoever. I burn them up in third easily. Car doesn't have anything over 150hp yet. Stock ported.
Anybody recommend an specific brand of tires , model or compound for drag (DOT legal please). I want to run 13". I got 13x8 wheels.
Thanks

You should get a wide body kit.. On my 79, I have 265/55-15s on the back.. And have a little room to go.. Most widebody kits for the 1st gen will let you do 10x16" wheels..
