Widebody TII swap, going to need powersteering... Ideas?

Hey everyone,
I have came to the conclusion that without a doubt im going to need powersteering on my widebody GSL-SE project. To give everyone an idea, im going to be running 17x10 rims up front with 275/40/17 tires, im in dire need of PS lol. I am just curious as to what the best setup would be.

I know there is the CP racing manual rack, but I dunno if that would be enough. How hard would it be to hook up a full TII powersteering setup?

Im going to put a S5 TII into the car so im wondering if going with the stock PS system would be the best way to do it.

Any other setup ideas or suggestions are really appreciated because I deffinately need to figure something out right away...

Thanks

The 1st gen ps will work, 2nd gen takes a lot of fabbing, no comment on CP. I added a 1st gen ps unit to mine and am happy with it.

By any chance do you have a couple pictures of the FB PS setup installed on your car? Both FB's i've owned have been without the PS system so I would like to get the idea of what the setup looks like in my head. Then I can at least understand a little better what all im going to need to get it to work.

Thanks for the quick response!

No need at all for PS on my car with 225 tires and 17X8 rims up front, but it sounds like your gonna be looking like Popeye if you dont get some assist going, especially if you run stickies.

The CP kit actually probably induced a little more resistance into my steering simply because it was tighter and higher ratioed than my sloppy stock box.Plus,I was running Redline syn oil in the stock box,it was very slick and smooth, although the freeplay was horrendous.Im completely used to the CP kit now after a few years, but I probably wouldnt recommend it in your case.
The FC subframe swap is a sweet setup and it cures many of the FB's weak points, but it is a project unto itself.....but the rewards would warrant the work and FC's are super common in yards now.The stock FB P/S would be the easiest, although they are getting harder to come by.....

Dan,

There are a couple of pics in this thread, let me know if you need anymore. There are a couple of pics in my 2nd gen fmoc install 'How To' thread that may help you also.

I have a 2nd gen power steering pump on my 1st gen.

Everything is identicle, accept the nipple length on the bottom, it is shorter.

And the tank is differnt, it takes alot of work to get it into position.

You will have to get a 2nd gen power steering hose, or get a custom one.

And thats about it.

but to me, I would rather a 1st gen power steering pump.

2nd gen, 1st gen power steering pump, both have the same 4 bolt locations.

and the plug, plugs into the 2nd gen pump just fine.

Dan,

On second thought, the 85 FSM has a diagram, Sec. 10B, p.2 that shows all of the components for the powersteering. It gives a better idea than the pics.
