It'll give you easier starting, 1 or 2 hp, better fuel economy, better drivability, but...

---the latest version of the TT is not done. They are currently trying to eliminate some electrical noise issues.

---the previous version gives you either good low end or good upper end, but not both. And it has a tendency to fry the coil...

Current work is being done by 'gsl-se addict' and the thread to follow is:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...32#post5605232

When it'll be ready to be released, you'll need about $50 for the TT box + 2nd gen coil + 2nd gen wires to update your iginition.

I ran a v1 TT from gslse addict and for the 4 months I drove it before it burned up my 2nd gen ignitor I LOVED IT! Cleaner emmisions smell (RB header/exhaust, no cat), better milage by ~ 3 mpg and best of all MORE POWER! I have no idea how many horsepower more I got but I would rate it with the increase I felt with the RB exhaust when I put that on. Better yet this mod is a fraction of the cost! Im on the list for v2 TT and cant wait for the bugs to get worked out. Im picking up a new 2nd gen coil tommorow and am very tempted to hook it back up with my v1 TT and run it til it dies again!

3 mpg savings at $2+ per gallon for 4 months. Sounds like the coil paid for itself.

No kidding! Thats why Im seriously considering sacrificing another coil. My other car is a 86 bronco with a 350 in it that Ive been driving while Im finishing a driveshaft swap. Getting 10 mpg HURTS!!!

fwiw... 86 Bronco would have had a 300 I-6, 302 or 351, 350's are for chevys.

The TT rocks. I had version 1, then upgraded to the autoswitching version last fall. I agree that the gains in power are comparable to what I saw with my RB exhaust install. I just burnt out my 2nd coil pack (actually the first one I wired up wrong, so not the fault of the TT unit at all), but hey that's the price we pay. The newest version should address this issue nicely.

In my opinion, this is the number 1 mod for the money (typically under 50 bucks total). Smoother idle, better economy, no more fumes, and she pulls like crazy well past the redline. I see some people putting the gains at 1 or 2 hp, but I say it's a hell of a lot more than that... It'll be another week before I get my next coil pack, and it sucks driving on the stock ignition again.

If you're looking for something to get you by until the newest TT units are available, then just do the old style 2nd gen ignition mod but don't cut the wires on the ignitor (directions are in the FAQ section).

Thanks for the replies, guys. I am currently visiting Spain and don´t have much computer access. I will need to get another o-scope when I return. The seller hasn´t gotten back to me for a partial refund or anything. I will be back in a few more days and I will get another scope ordered. I will also try to answer any questions on the TT, but it sounds like these guys covered things pretty well.

86 bronco could've went under the knife and received a 350 from a chevy. IIRC there's a guy I work with that the only ford part left is the body.

I mean, how many RX's still have the original motor? Swapping motors is pretty common around the rotary community. If not for a rebuild, then for a newer motor from a later model (13bt or 13brew).

I did this mod before on my 81 GS and it works great however found out that it did burn the coil later on. It was a good mod for the money not to mention the amount of gas I save with this mod. So even if it did burn you still save enough on gas with the mod. Speaking of a stock car here so not sure how other high performance car are doing as far in mpg. Now, I am planing on doing this mod again on my new 84 GS once this electrical noise get figure out. Great mod and great work this guys I putting in as well as their time for us. Like "Kentetsu" said, Best mod for the money.

Hey Angel,

We have found the problem in the current circuit, but will need a big design change to fix. The current circuit can be modified to work like the circuit you had. I think we can fix the coil heating problem by switching or adding a resistor in the back of the 2nd gen pack. I just need to have someone to try it. I would check it myself, but I don't have the correct resistors here and I don't have a way to exactly reproduce what the J-109 produces for a signal. Anyway, if you want to get one for your new car, just let me know. I have extras available.

I am also making an all new ignition design. It will be more advanced than the TT. Probably not really better in performance, but I want to give it the ability to use the 2nd gen CAS and 2nd gen trailing. It will also funtion like the normal TT, but the output pulse will be controlled to fix the heat issue without adding/changing resistors.
