why won't my motor work?

i have a 1984 gsl-se. i recently replaced the fuel filter and had the fuel injectors rebuilt. after connecting the hoses and putting the intake all back together i started it up. after chugging to a start, the rpms go to 3000 for a second or two and then slowly drop down to zero. if i keep my foot on the gas and keep it at or above 3000, everything sounds fine and it seems to work, but anywhere below 3000 and it dies. im new to rotaries and im pretty frustrated. what should i check? what might be the problem?

You more than likely have a vacuum leak somewhere.

They shouldnt. I assume you cleaned the mating surfaces well? I'd just look around for a broken or disconnected vacuum line. Replacing them all would never hurt

you can use starting fluid, wd40, or even propane to find the leak, just be careful. And keep a fire extiguisher handy.

im in the process of replacing the hoses and cleaning the surfaces for the gasket between the upper and lower intake manifolds. how would you suggest i get rid of the little bits of old gasket still stuck to it?

also, i didnt mention the high pitched whining or screaming it makes sometimes. i added oil and it worked fine for a good 10 minutes or so, but then it started up. i shut it down as soon as i hear it because its so loud im thinking its something serious. what could that be?
