Why are Glass Roofs so damn expensive?

Everybody's asking $150 to $200 US. Same thing with the factory spoilers, are they really that freakin' rare?
I think I'll just keep an eye out for a parts car that hasn't been pillaged by the profiteers already.

I totally understand what you mean. It getting harder and harder to find good prices on things that seem some what a normal item.

In any case I came across this site. Atlanta RX-7
http://www.atlantarx7.com/1gencat.html
I'm not sure how reliable they are or what, but they
caught my attention.

I've seen them for as low as $100 on the parts trader. I haven't gotten mine, yet. I'm still scouring junkyards for one. I did find one a few months back, but it was cracked.

I have one I will sell for $300.:p Just kidding. They are rare and that makes them more valuble. I found one at a pick and pull for $20 and I got one that came with a parts car I bought. I guess you either need to be patient and wait for a good deal or just suck it up and pay the price. I would let my extra one go for $150.00 . any less than that and its worth just hanging on to.

ok guys, whats the deal with these roofs??..I now have seen glass sun roofs and a plexi -glass sun roof...what gives??..Is one stock from the factory and the other an aftermarket?? I have the plexi-glass one...I think the glass one would be better. This plexi-glass one has a lot of little stress cracks....anyway...anyone know what the deal is with glass-vs-plexiglass???.....cjf...................

good question cjf, all the one's i've ever had felt more like plexi than real glass. i don't think i've ever even seen one made out of real glass. the plexi ones have all been somewhat clouded, too. that's easy to fix with a good car polish, or in my case, 10000 grit sanding gel and a power drill. but real glass would be preferable.

Huh,never heard of a plexi moonroof.I'm pretty sure the glass
roofs are mazda,,an option from the dealer,or if one ordered
a car the list of options would include a glass moonroof, bra's,
even ski racks, down to raised white letter radials.look at all
the glass on your cars, somewhere on each piece is whats called
an acid etch,it states the glass is tempered and passed GOV.
standards,,sort of like DOT,,,etc only real glass has the acid etch

hey rotorhead, 10000 grit sand paper?...I think that is a good idea cause my plexiglass has some scratchs and maybe this will take them out a bit...did it work pretty good for you...??

NOT SANDPAPER! that'd leave hairline scratches.... i got this stuff made by "nicsand". it's 10000 grit sanding GEL. just spooge a little bit on the foam applicator disc which attaches a drill, and polish away! if it starts to dry up, a little bit of water reactivates it. this stuff doesn't even feel gritty, but it works fantastic! rinse it off when you are done, then give it a good coating of a high quality car wax(zymol, meguiar's....). made a world of difference on mine. it can be tough getting in the corners and edges though.

all i can say is keep lookin through the junk yard, mine was 20 bucks. the tint looks a little weird underneath where the flap touches it, but thats how they all look.
hey rotorhead, whered you get that stuff? sounds interesting. could be put to good use on my bros headliaghts, hes got a 92 mustang with funky lookin lights and the only way to clear it up is by wet sanding em.

i got it from advance auto, i think. i've seen it in some of the local auto part stores, walmarts if you're lucky, maybe even hardware stores. they made a 5000 grit gel and a 10000 grit gel. comes with a bottle of gel(looks like a bottle of lotion) and a foam disc for your drill. white packaging.
