Why does oil pressure drop over 4 K?

Hey Guys,

I've read that its normal for oil pressure to drop a bit at any RPM over 4 thousand RPM. I've been trying to figure this out. What would cause a pressure drop at 4 grand, and does that me that its not really healthy to keep an engine running at 4 grand, is the oil system in a weakened state past 4 grand? Where is the pressure going, On my autometer gauge, mine will go from 65 at 3500, to 55 at 4500 on the highway. Please help me clear things up

-Matt

Hmm, old oil filter? I don't know, but I don't think that the pressure should be dropping at higher rpms. Mine will drop at idle, but anything above that and it goes higher.

Could be a weak bypass valve, either in the oil pump, or the oil filter.
I am not sure how the oil pump is set up on these, but most pumps have a bypass of some sort.

I was under the impression that all rotaries suffered from this condition. I've had 3 engines and all three have done the same thing (ha maybe its the reason i've had 3 engines)

oil gets hot. if you want higher pressure, then you have to replace the stock ROPR with a modified one.
