Why does my idle raise when I turn right?

The title pretty much says it. When I turn the wheel to the right while in neutral, my rpms raise to about 1500. When the wheel returns to center, the rpms drop back down. Nothing happens when turning left. The car is an '85 GSL, SP 12A w/ sterling carb, Holley FP and FPR, and currently an open header for exhaust. Anyone know what could be causing this? I wonder about the brake booster...

I don't know but if you find out can you help me figure out why my temp guage starts to move into the overtemp zone when I put the headlights on?

Good luck!

haa! I wonder where our cars are getting such excellent crack? I mean, I live in a fairly rough neighborhood, so it's probably not too hard to come by...

Do you have power steering?

you must have power steering, and while in neutral your applying a load to your pump. I have no idea about the sterling carb, but something has to compensate for that load. Maybe a vacuum leak also??

Sounds like bad grounds to me. Clean the ground cable on your battery and check to make sure that both(yes both) grounds are clean and tight. If you only have one ground then ding there's your problem.

Thanks slayer, I'll go over those grounds again. I agree with the others ovid, sounds like your power steering might be acting up. It's easy to temporarily remove the belt to see if that eliminates the idle problem.

Nope, I do not have power steering. Why vacuum leaks, Gavin? I think I do still have one or two small ones.
