why can't i get gas

alright, so i have been having fuel problems where my filter gets clogged. i replaced it about 2 weeks ago and now i have no fuel getting past the filter. i replaced the metal hoses for rubber ones from the fuel pump back to the tank. i still can't get any fuel. my thinking is that there is something(rust) clogging the fuel inlet on the gas tank, but i don't want to have to take the tank down, unless i was getting a new one. right now i can't think of anything else that would be the problem. i also took the new hose that connects to the tank and blew through it. nothing really happened, and i'm not sure if anything would've happend. well there's the problem, any other advice would be awesome. i really don't want to get it towed to a shop and have to pay a mechanic to fix it, but if that's what i have to do i will.--thanx

Rusty tank, look up POR-15 and check out their gas tank restoration kit. Its a badass sealer that I have heard works excellent. Its on my list of things to do.

Gotta remove tank, give thorough rinsing and then put in the por-15 stuff and swish that around and let dry. It takes a couple days if I remember correctly and some people like to do it twice for extremely bad tanks. Also alot of people like to change the fuel level sending unit at the same time (100 bucks from mazda).

Try SUCKING gas through from the engine bay instaed of blowing....you may need to re-prime the system.

Look and see if your tank has a drain plug, If it does, replace the filter, put a magnet on the bottom of the tank next to the drain and drive it around for a while. If it won't start, blow compressed air through the the supply line into the tank, make sure the gas cap is off.

If the metal line that you took off is in good shape, reinstall it. You don't want the pump collapsing the rubber hose between the tank and the pump.

If you have no drain plug, try the magnet trick anyway, then drop the tank, remove the magnet and use a magnetic pickup tool to grab most of the rust. While the tank is out, clean out the supply tube, then flush out the tank to remove the rest of the debris.
