Who wants to see what Sterling and RX7Carl look like? ;)

So there I am, bright and early outside Sevenstock 7. I'm waiting in line to get my 7 in. And what a line!

I'm about a block and a half from the start of the line. Parking inside for rotary powered cars is 9 am. I arrived at 7 am. It's now 8:40 AM. I'm sitting inside my car with the hood popped. Banana boy shows up and recognizes me from the PB&J racing shirt I'm wearing (which he sent me). We start chatting about the car and I see this other guy he is with. Obviously Sterling. So we start talking about my car and how the Sterling carb is running, etc. Banana boy is looking at the car, and then he tells me I should get rid of my shutter valve, which literally is in the way of the enlarged AP extension rod. Next thing I know, him and Sterling are discussing what to do, Sterling asks for some tools. I pull my bag of tools, and there they are, with 10 mins before the parking opens, digging right into my carb! it was just the funniest thing you wanted to see. They went right into it! (Carl is the guy in the right and Sterling the guy in the left)

9 1/2 mins later, I have a correctly set AP which doesn't rub anymore and starts squirting as soon as I hit the throtle, handling the hesitation I was having around 2K rpm. How cool is that? These guys are the nicest persons you can think of! Oops! did I just say that about Sterling?

Thank you guys, pleasure to meet you in person.

That's awesome.

Carl's using Sevenstock as his excuse to escape from FL for a bit

"Yeah Honey, we should get outta state for a while... how about Cali? I hear there's lots to do up there "

Those two guys are great. My carb is running great, now that I fixed the idle problem finally. I should check this AP rod thing, could be why I'm not getting enough of a gas shot to start it in the morning... my shutter valve is still there, but capped. I should take it out and JBWeld the holes in the mani or make a blockoff plate or something.

I bet *they* were glad to meet too! From what I understood this was their first person-to-person meeting, since Carl lives in FL and I *believe* Sterling lives in NY!

Anyway, just randomly blowing stuff out,

L8rs,
Jon

They moved the adjusting nut for the AP arm as much as possible, then took the AP extension arm and bent it, and then put it back at an angle like this \ so it wouldn't rub against the shutter valve.

LOL, yea Sterling said it would be done in 10 min. He was better than right. Beat the deadline by 30 secs! It was absolutely great to meet all the people we did (yes Jon, including each other) and also great to see the people we met last time. The show was better and bigger than last year! There were many more 1st gens and in better overall condition than last time.

Jon, hit me up via PM or email and we'll make sure your carb is ok.
Mark, I havent gotten the pic yet. Ill check my mail as soon as I get home.

I didnt delete pics. We're not THAT hideous. I'm not afraid of Armur, Ive never pissed him off. The guy in the green shirt is a friend of MikeyD.

Actually that was a small oversight on my part when buiding the carb. It was pointed out by Sterling, and we fixed it on the spot. We shifted the link slightly to one side to clear the shutter. 2 problems fixed at once.

"Dennsi"... even sounds japanese! (heavy japanese accent) "Dennsi-san mastah of cahburetohs!" (best.... typo.... ever!)

I'd love to see in-progress pics of a nikki build... I love the pic he's got attached to his sig! It's insane how much work these guys put into it.

Yay!!

After reading this thread, I went and looked at my AP rod and found to my amazement that it was suffering the same problem!

Since my shutter valve was capped off *anyway*, I took a half hour this afternoon, removed the carb, removed the shutter valve, JB-KwikWelded the vacuum holes into the intake mani, thew it all back together and voila!

As it turns out, the new rod for the accelerator pump was rendered totally immobile by the shutter valve housing. This meant that when I wanted to start the car in the morning or I opened the 3rd and 4th barrel, I was missing those crucial "squirts" of gas. Fixing this has solved my "I need a gas can to start the car in the morning" problem and the "it bogs almost no matter how slowly I open the secs" problem. Carl and Sterling know about this now and are undoubtedly fixing the problem on all current/future carbs they can get their hands on, but anyone with one of their carbs built before this who still have the silly/useless shutter valve should double-check theirs as a matter of course.

Awesomely Awesome carb guys. The simplicity of it made removing it bloody easy compared to stock. It took me a whole *six* minutes to remove the carb, including the time it took to remove the air filter assembly! I can't wait to get this thing fine-tuned!

Jon

PS: pics to come when I get a place to host 'em.

I got to meet Carl and Sterling. Great guys. Pleasure to meet them. When I approached Carl though I thought he was someone else. He was totally confused! Oops, my bad! Oh well, he's a cool guy. I'm glad I met them both.
