Who Runs No Presilencers?

I just got another rx-7 parts-mobile, and it has an RB header. This one collects into one pipe and presilencer, and runs back to the muffler.
I have the dual pipe set up on my DD; same muffler.

Wondering if anyone has taken off the presilencers, or never bought them in the first place, and just run the header and muffler? What's it sound like?

Those RB presilencers are just flippin heavy! Are they really necessary?

what kind of muffler! I removed the cat and ran a RB pipe on my GSL-SE (stock manifold), out back is a turbo type muffler a previous owner put on it.

It sounds like crap! (and loud)

I am getting a header and presilecer and hope it corrects this. If not I will get a different muffler.

I ran RB Headers, Straight pipe out to a Power pulse/primaflow exhaust on my old SE.

Was just as quiet as stock when idle or crusin'. Only louder when the pedal was mashed - and sounded nice and deep. Not Weed-whacker sounding.

Sterling,
Just run the header with no muffler, it keeps the deer off of the road.

that sounds like the exhaust tone I want, I think I might run that instead. Just that the power pulse is so expensive.

It was a touch loud with the flowmaster, the neighbors would wave their fists at me as I would run up the street (while doing the speed limit).

Got any recent pictures of the car?

looks the same, maybe the ride hight changed a bit after the tokicos. I do have big plans, but I am leaving the country for the big sandbox for a few months. Then I will move to the metroplex. Should have a wolf on the car when I get back.

Never have run a presilencer.

Never have run RB parts either. That stuff is EXPENSIVE!!! $300 or so for a muffler, I don't think so.

If the dumbasses here would shoot the deer, and not the other people in their hunting parties, maybe we would'nt have such an over population problem!
Hey - I got an idea. Why does'nt everyone come hunting, and wipe out the deer population for me?

Hanman, You could stay with us. Seniors get their liscences free, too. You won't have to spend any money at all!

why not construct the presilencers? seems liek they are jsut expansion type silencers. no?

I wiped this pic together a while back in about 3mins to give me a visual idea of the chambers im going to make for my monster bridgetport track car. i hope to run uncollected 2" to these expansion chambers and then out to bike mufflers for flow. I am still wondering on if I should run a 'packing' or not which is shown by the gray area. I hope it shouldnt be too loud either, but I post after i get the chambers made and mounted.

anyways hope this helps on hose who are too poor to pay 300bones for one, like me

Too many people are trying to reinvent the wheel. While I do really sympathize, you will kill your pocketbook and ears with all the changes. Here is my humble opinion. get a boneyard muffler and take a sawzall to it. Cut it in half lengthwise. Then ask your self why they made this the way they did at Mazda. To look at a Primaflow, you would need a dead one. If anyone has the ability to do this, lets do it. I would love to see the guts of these 2 units because they are really what works. From there, you could base your choices on similar designs. What do you think?

The Primaflow is apparently a giant glasspack-type (absorption) muffler that uses stainless steel shavings as the packing material.

It sounds somewhat like a machine gun/gas trimmer.

I run a pacesetter header, into 2 1/4" piping that leads into my cat and straight back to my Vibrant muffler... The muffler is basically empty, so its not really doing anything. The car acutally sounds pretty good and not THAT loud... For the summer i have removed the cat so i hope to see if there will be any changes in sound, or any major performance difference.

What's inside the RB presilencers?
They're very heavy, and my exhaust dump is hooked up after them. It is VERY loud even though it's going thru them.

The muffler is the RB "Power Pulse" muffler.
The one that's on the clunker I just got (In an accident...Reeeeal bad 'cut 'n paste' job), is the same as my DD. But it has a significant dent it the front - crunched pretty bad. This weekend I might cut it open and cut open a rused stocker.
We'll see if I can get photos.

The prima flow muffler is the key to a quiet set-up. Header+straight pipe+Primaflow= quiet enough. Header+Presilencer+ any other muffler = LOUD!

The reason no-one cuts up a Primaflow is because they never seem to go bad... they last forever. They are easily worth the extra cash in my opinion.

I have a RB header, a glasspack, and a decent muffler. It sounds pretty good, but I want the sound to be deeper (too much like a weed whacker). Never tried any presilencers.

Mschafe,
the glasspack will have the glass melt inside.
I suggest you run something else than a glasspack...run a dynomax presilencer (there is a steel packed model).

I currently run a header, no presilencers, dynomax super turbo muffler all with 2.5" piping. Needless to say it's loud but still street legal....But I don't recomend it...it's still too loud for normal daily driving although power levels are really noticeable. It's what I call annoying as ****. My car is stock ported.

If I later want to quiet it down a bit more, I'll run a freeflowing dynomax steel packed presilencer right after the header. This is the cheapest and best bang for the buck setup...I ran this on a streetported for about 3 years on a daily driver. Other than that the best system is the RB dual pipe race setup.

I have been trying, without success, to run all year. It looks like I wont get to either, as I am going overseas for a few months.

I am currently in Abilene, but am moving to the metroplex after I get back from my trip. That should allow me to make a full season of autocrossing.
