This is for racing, not street legal.. but whos running a muffler right off the header?
Im running a road race header, and just tring to get ideas on how long the primaries need to be beefore i single it into 1 for a muffler/baffle and I want it to be 3in but no less than 2.5 in diamiter and stop mid car,

Heres a shot of a GT-3 racecar. The header pipes collect almost immediately to a 4" pipe then to a muffler exiting the side of the chassis.

Yeah, shutup kid.
What about if there was a small oil leak or tranny fluid leak? My friends car caught fire from an exhaust leak between the turbo and manifold and a small oil leak he already fixed, but didn't clean all the oil off yet. There's almost always something to catch fire

On my '82 AutoXer, I had the RB short primary header with a muffler bolted right to the end with a turndown welded on it. Blew all the packing out of the muffler in big flaming ***** the first time I started it, but still quited it down some because of the baffles. Lasted about 2 seasons before blowing apart.

It really depends on what kind of tracks you run...
My findings are on stock/street porting 12a engines.
Long primaries into a single muffler, pipes going under rear axle for long tracks, good high end power.
Short exhaust if you are wanting more power out of turns, with short staight aways.

he's right, the METAL wont burn, so once all the undercoating and paint burns off, and then after that ignites the wiring and the interior, it will pretty much burn itself out, and all he'll have left is the metal , but he's right, lol, the metal wont burn :P

Hehe...
When my exhaust exploded on the highway, I just had the stock manifold and the first empty cat looking thing left.
I couldn't drive that loud beast that way without fearing my windows, or car's next to me windows' would shatter...
...so I bought a $17.99 Cherry Bomb Turbo II muffler and MECHANIC'S WIRE tied it to what was left of the exhaust...
Much much quieter.
The thing lasted well, and is now the only muffler in my straight through exhaust.
