while playin with a Rx-8 today...

we came around the corner at a light he was 2 car lenghts back on the other lane and i was up front in the other and i look back and i see him weave in and out of the lanes real agresive like, and me being the playful type of mood i thought it was and i see him coming up on my pretty quick so what do i do i drop it and flood it. i dont know if he started to slow down or not but by this time it was a 2 lane road and im going about 95 in a 55 and and i got a good distance between us about 6 plus car lenghts and i keep gunnin it and im going about 115 and i look in my rear viee and he's comin up on me not too quick but at a good speed. it took a good lenght to catch me like about aminute. im starting to feel the front end lift up alil on me and there was a car coming in front of me too so i stared to slow down and while lookin to the rear veiw again i start to see some smoke coming out the tail pipe while i have the throttle pushed, it was while i was running it hard, i dont know what it is or why it is happening can you guys help? BTW i by no means concider this a kill, i do call it that we can have fun with other cars with minor mods you can play with the bigger boys! and can someone pls help me out with what the smoke out the back could be. could be some carbon being cleaned out while pushin the **** out of the car? i dont know.and i do by any means think that my car beat a Rx-8 i just like playin with the boys

Nothing's wrong, you just have the built-in smoke screen package that kicks in anytime you're kicking someone's ***.

my car does that too....

above 5500 or so, smoke pours out of the exhaust. i hear it's a oil control ring or something that loses its sealing power at high rpm, or when it's warming up

Perhaps he did not want to play little boy games in a 55 zone.

[QUOTE=paul: if you were there you would understand but dont worry about it have a good day! [/QUOTE]

I know the feeling, but try to resist knowing that with 225rwhp from a 12AT in a stock looking Gen 1 vert there is little on the road that can touch me: except my wife in her modded Skyline R34! Must admit would not swap my Gen1 for any RX-8, they lack both performance and looks.

Thanks for the fine day, its 80 degrees, and I am going cruising with the top down to the sailing club. Have a great rotary time.

The poor Rx8s out there.... the red headed stepchilds of the rotary family. Anyway put 4 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil in your Rx7's gas tank the next time you fill the gas tank up completely. That might help out with the smoking problem. What color is the smoke (white, blue, or black)? Are you burning more oil lately, if so Lucas oil treatment would help your Rx7 also. Keep us posted.

The high RPM smoke usually come when you shift or let off the throttle and coast at high rpms.During off throttle running, the throttle plates are closed tight, but the engine is still spinning like mad, creating high vacuum in the engine. If the oil control rings are worn or questionable, oil will be drawn into the combustion chamber by the high vacuum and will create the smoke. When you get back on the power, the burning fuel in the combustion chamber will create positive pressure to help force the oil into the crankcase and out of the chamber(also known as blow-by)

I wouldnt rely on,or recommend Lucas to "fix" the problem. The only cure is a rebuild, but you might be able to reduce the smoke by running a heavier weight oil, like 20W50 which is very popular with the rotary crowd.Lucas is like tar and can cause problems in cold weather...

I had this problem and decided to try Amsoil in my engine as it couldn't hurt, well, about 7,000 miles in 2 months later the smoking stopped and my oil is still clean. I guess I cleaned out some carbon and got a good seal again. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself but I' a convert.

I did use a fair amount of oil for the first 5,000 miles though, kept adding Amsoil.

Yes, I recently joined up to try it out for myself and very happy with the product from personal experience now.

I also added Amsoil trans and diff oils, which has quietened my drivetrain, but hasn't helped my crunch when shifting down from 3rd to 2nd. I belive the trans is due for replacement/rebuild on that one.

This kinda reminds me of a funny story of mine. I was coming up to a stop sign with an older vette, mabey mid to late 80's, behind me. I decided to take off and give him a little smell of the rotary. Well, I botched the 1-2 shift pretty bad and smoke just started pouring out the back end. I must have reved the engine to 9000+ before I realized I wasn't in gear. Everything just happened so fast. But anyway, the guy in the vette must have thought I blew my engine there was so much smoke. Thats when i was a little younger and more immature and tryin to shift mad quik.
