Where there different differential ratios for an '84?

I have an '84 race car with posi rear end and discs from a GSL. Anyone know what the ratio is for it? I am looking for a new diff since I never hit fifth gear at any track I run.

I'm going to take a shot and say that the 84 models had several rear gear ratio's. The SE's had 4.10 gears, GSL and others had 3.909, IIRC.

4th gear is pretty much always 1:1 at the transmission, however, so I wouldn't think that you'd ever get into 5th on a long track due to the overdrive being particularly powerless - it's designed for highway cruising. Lower gearing at the rear end will result in higher reving at all vehicle speeds, and usually street cars are given higher gear ratio's at the rear to help with acceleration off the line. Higher rear gears are usually counter productive for long track cars, IME.

Someone with more experience on changing out rear gears can probably confirm or deny my beliefs. HTH,
