Where to put MSD's?

So now that I'm elbows deep in wiring my turbo build... I'm all out of creative thought processes. So I wanted to see what ideas you guys had for mounting locations for the two MSD 6A's that I'm going to be running.

Let me preface this request though.... I'm really pushing for a clean install, and I'd prefer to not have theses things hanging off a shock tower. Ideally I'd like them to be out of the engine bay, but I'm worried that they won't get enough ventilation in the interior of the vehicle and that there could be possible interference in the signal wires from the dizzy if they're mounted too far away. My other idea was to mount them in the cowling below the wipers, but the car might see some Florida rain once in awhile, and I'm not sure how water proof these things are.

So any ideas are welcomed... and as always pictures are even better!

You still have the sub zero start assist and windsheild washer fluid bottles in the passenger side of the engine bay right near the firewall?? If not, maybe there. Stack on top if there's enough room..??

You going to do battery relocation? Maybe stack them on top where old battery used to be.

It may be in the way of your intercooler, but I have both of mine mounted on the inside of my radiator support. So you can't see them unless you look through the front grill of the car. That is where they have been mounted for years after seeing it done on here. I like the how much it cleans up the engine bay.

Twinkletoe's ideas are good too. You can stock them anywhere you have room in the engine bay.

I have also seen them placed in the glove box without any problems, but you then loose that storage space.

Everything is gone from the passenger side.... but the Mallory 4309 is mounted there and lots of AN lines/fittings going to that. Battery is relocated... but charge piping comes through the sheet metal right behind the head lights... so that's out.

I'm trying to keep engine bay as clean and uncluttered as possible.... hence the removal of everything that didn't make it go or stop. I should post a pic... but I'm really trying to hold off for the "big reveal" when it's all done.

I like the idea of mounting them in the radiator support... was just concerned about the water.... but if your's have been there for years, I should be alright. I thought about the glove box too, but worried about noise in the signal wires from the dizzy.

Mine is on the underside of the top rad. support plate. Never an issue.

I initially also had the same concern, until after seeing it ran the same way for many years on forum members cars. IIRC, I think I put clear silicon around the edges of the case of the MSD boxes, just as extra preventative maintenance, but I don't think it's totally necessary.

put your battery in the passenger bin and put the MSDs where the battery was. I've had mine on all the rad supports, glove box, floor boards. i liked the battery tray best.

Battery tray would be nice if there was one.... there's charge piping there now...

I think I'm going to go with the radiator support idea..... and if that doesn't work then I'll stick them in the glovebox. I want them to be hidden if possible.

I cut the top rad shroud, put some trim around the hole and mounted the MSD from underneath. Looks good, get you a pic when I get home.

It's completely unneccessary because the internals are potted.

Battery in the back and MSD up front is bad practice because the MSD's power lead is not long enough to reach to the battery. The MSD needs to be connected directly to the battery.

Mine's not either, but if I fry an MSD box because of undervoltage, I'm not going to whine about it.

if you mounted it upside down underneath that panel, I hope it is completely sealed off from moisture and such. I dont see condensation escaping from how it is installed.

It is mounted right side up. The bottom of the picture is the radiator side of the panel.

I have already drilled out the rivets and sealed the box from the inside, including the wires leaving the box. No problems with moisture when I had it mounted upside down either. The electronics are mounted on the bottom plate of the MSD. This is the MSD 6T box, a more robust version of the 6A.

I cut a hole the size of the bottom of the MSD box on the panel and used an angle grinder and dremel to cut it out. Filed down the cut, rounded the edges. The trim is standard 1/8" vacuum tubing (think dizzy vacuum lines) slit down the middle and epoxied on. The MSD is held up by 2 tabs welded to the panel and epoxied to the MSD. I had to notch the under bracing for the hoos. Not a big deal since I will be making a fiberglass hood. The top of the MSD box is parallel to the ground, if I ran it flat with the panel it would be hitting the radiator.

Hope that paints a better picture, I would get a picture but I just put it back on the car and the wire tuck was a nightmare to behin with!
