where to plumb water temp sender?

Ok i bought a good electric aftermarket water temp guage but the sender they gave me is too big to fit in the stock location!!!

So i tried it on the top of the radiator with no luck it's now too small but still too big to fit inside a sleeve.

So now i was wondering if the drain plug on the bottom of the housing would work? What do you guy's think?

If all else fail's is there a smaller sender i can buy somewhere? this sender has a screw on the end!

i had kinda asked the same question not that long ago. u could just buy a 3 or 4 inch tube and get a bung put on it for the sender. then connect to one of the coolant tubes to the radiator. i forget who told me to do it.

i had a sunpro gauge in my car and the gauge went to 280 as soon as the car was on.

Problem fixed...I just went to the local hardware store and bought the fitting's i needed.

It's going to look kinda odd though. I have a couple extra sender unit's laying around from various previous temp gauges ive had over the years. But none of them work with this gauge..lol

Its just odd how they make the hole soo damn small?

I drilled and tapped a hole in my water pump housing for my water temp gauge. Works great, and seems to be very accurate...

From Jeff20B:

My version of Jeff's old school approach:

Yeah it was a fun and inexpensive project and I agree it looks cool, almost as cool as Jeff's old school stock housing, which is where I got the idea. Nicest thing about it is that it is a mechanical sensor so it is immune to electrical gremlins and backs up the stock electrical gauge reliably.

I just took the stock 85 goose neck and drilled a big hole, then welded a pipe fitting in:

Keep an eye on the internal clearance when tapping. The FC wp housings are easier since there is an extra land where the tap can be made. 3/4" NPT tap.

What size is your temp sensor? If 1/8 npt, you could put it inside your heater hose with something like this?

Or maybe in another stock location with something like these?

I moved that thermostat housing, complete with fitting and guage, to the REPU.

I just rethreaded the stock location in back of the water pump housing and never had a problem.

I did that on the GLC. No problems.

Hey Latin, I noticed your temp sender in that location is compatible with the Edelbrock on an RB manifold. Was your spacer 1" or 3/4"?
