Where to mount FC Oil Cooler

Need some help here guys,

Picked up a FC oil cooler out of an 86 to put into my 84 GSL (12a).

I had hopes of mounting it in the same place as the 86 but the suspension interferes with the fittings/ hoses (as does the lower valance with the cooler itself)

Does anyone have pictures of how they have overcome where to mount it

with the FC, you have to make your own bracket and it has to sit in front of the radiator just like the FC/GSL-SE. Hoses has to be custom too but I've seen ppl used the stock FC oil lines too. Except its below my standards as I dont like short cuts.

My problem is if I try to mount it where it is on the FC, air flow is blocked by the lower front valance and I have to remove the skit plate the runs from the valance to the front cross member.

In addition it looks like I wil have hose fitting interferance problems. I will post pics in the morning. (was hoping someone had pics on how they did this.)

I think this will help. I *think* this is a FC cooler. I only have the -SE coolers I pulled at the boneyard. Never found one in a FC, somebody always beat me to them.

Do you need new lines if your swapping in a 13B complete with the oil cooler still attached? Or do I just trim the radiator shroud to clear the lines?

the pix in carl's website has a tall radiator. if you have the short radiator, you dont have to change the lines since there is plenty of room to run the stock lines under the radiator. but again, thats mickey mouse.

Well here is how we ended up mounting the FC oil cooler, had to mount it upside down to keep it foward of the A/C components. The RB lines are way to short, am ordering bulk Earls hose to fabricate the lengths needed to route properly.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. The bracket you cut off. I need for the power steering cooler. But you have given me a new perspective on how to mount the cooler. Didn't even concider muffler clamps.

Thanks for post.

Power steering? Was wondering what that was there for, needless to say I do not have power steering.

when I put the FC oil cooler in my old 85 GS, i just made a bracket that attached to the oil cooler, and then used sheet metal screws so it sat right in the front air dam

looked kinda like a FMIC!!

Looks good and not too much fabrication

Do you have any pics of the completed install, as far as where you routed the hoses and stuff?
