where to find short throw shifter
i was kind of bummed when i swapped out the tranny in my FB - the '83 tranny had a short shifter installed, and the '85 was stock.
took about a month to get used to.
i'm tempted to pull the shifter out of the old tranny and swap it in.

You can make your own, I have made 2 of them now with pretty good results.
-remove shifter assembly, remember where the spacers and bushings go.
-hold shifter in vise and cut the chrome/rubber piece in 4 spots all the way through until you just see rubber(dont cut too deep!)
-pry off the old threaded/chrome part
-next remove all of the rubber with a wire wheel
-using a grinder take off a small amount of metal all of the way down to the slight bend, try to keep it round when removing metal
-using a 14mmx1.50 tap make new threads down to the bend, clean up threads with the wire wheel
-reinstall correctly
You now have a 3inch short shifter, you may need a different shiftboot. I got mine from a civic at the junkyard. If you get rattles put some silicon or locktite in and around the threads. Good luck!

If you want to do it quick and dirty, there are two things you can do.
1)Take the shift lever out, cut an inch off the top and entend the threads lower on the shaft with a die.
2) There actually a lot of extra material at the top of the shifter ****. You can drill it out and extend it's threads with a tap.
*Note* this isn't nearly as effective as getting a Mazdatrix shifter, which actually has a higher pivot point, but it will shorten the throw somewhat and lower the shifter into a more comfortable height. On the plus side, it's free.

Actually, I hav ethe c's on my vert and it's better than stock, but I won't buy one for my GSL-SE. I simply removed the top (chrome section) and mounted a tall Momo shift **** over the rubber and it shifts just as good. Much cheaper. I learned that trick from BadAssRX-7's old car.
