Unhappy high pitched whining when clutch is in?!?!

Okay, here goes....
I was driving my '85 Base Model when the clutch felt a little spongy and weak....well it turns out I was low on fluid and it started to suck in air, so I put some more in...pump the clutch a bit, and get enough pressure to drive it back home. A couple of blocks from my house, I here a whining coming from my car, I put it in neutral and my cars dies.....as I start troubleshooting my problem I realise that everytime I push in the clutch it makes that high pitched whining sound(quiet at first but the more pressure I put on it the louder it gets). Anyway I got home, bleed the clutch system, but it still makes that hideous noise.....If I push the clutch in it will kill the engine, so I have to keep the rpms up as well. I dont know much about clutch/trannys so any help would be very helpful....

Dern, I hope this isnt a majorly expensive thing.....just think....I was going to dump 500 bucks on a stereo system tommarow!!!

Thanks for any ideas you can provide!

sounds like your throwout bearing is history. Replace it very soon or it will damage your pressure plate.

ditto,
better wait on the stereo. While you are in there you may want to do the complete clutch. It's a lot of hassle to get in there, doubly so if you have to go back in a short time.
