Where can I buy a new exhaust

I'm looking at this '79 RX-7 my friend has.
He cut the exhaust off because it was rotted out, he said.
Where is a good place to buy a replacement exhaust, what will it cost and what should I look for?
Thanks

go to www.racing beat.com theyr'e a little pricy but if u can get something as good as their exhaust setups done custom and then use the Racing Beat header you could probably save up a lot of money...look into that and the exhaust should be around 2.5 inch and should be straigh flowing. i don't know the rules for Wyoming but here in canada if a car is more than 20 yrs old like my 83 it doesn't need to past the emission/smog test so i am removing my catalytic convertor and the emissions crap also known as the "Rats Nest"....

Really need to understand your goals with the car, and the restriction of your city/state in which you live.

If power is what you want, and smog is not a issue. Go with a Racing Beat header system. The Prima Flo muffler they sale is restrictive but is quite for the street. If noise is not a issue go with a Ultra Flo from Dynomax muffler.

www.racingbeat.com
or www.mazdatrix.com sale the same units but better customer service.

Do go cheap on this, since a rotary engine will run hotter exhaust temperatures, you want quality componets.

Come on guys, the cars are 24 years old. How good could junk yard cars be in Wy?

Maybe parts from Ca or Az where its dry and low humidity.

But why not get 20-30 hp and save some big $$$ over stock/dealer parts.

Also I bet the thermal reactor is shot, like to take a guess on how much that would cost if you even find a replacement unit?

Make sure you check out the Mindtrain exhaust. http://www.kickyride.com sells them and I've heard good things about this exhaust system.

My 2003 Vctoria British catalog has a lot of exhaust parts. You can order a free catalog at their website www.victoriabritish.com

Even though your car is '83 and don't have to take the drive clean test, you are still subject to onroad enforcement. This also means visual checks. You aren't supposed to remove your emissions devices period.

the '79 rx-7 is a great car, as is the '80. i had a '79 way back when and kept it till the mid-90's. when i replaced the exhaust, i called up the checker auto. it wasn't too expensive.

Thanks for all the responses.
Wyoming has no vehicle inspection or emissions testing at all, so that's not an issue.
I am curious about this:
On small displacement piston engines, if you go too big on the diameter of the exhaust, you'll lose a lot of low end torque. Someone suggested a larger diameter exhaust for the '79 RX-7.
Do rotary engines respond more like a big V8 to opening up the exhaust, or can you go to big??

Also, what kind of price are we talking for pipes and such?

no i think a good size would prolly be 2.5 inch diameter piping....pipes if ur doing a custom job u would have to get a quote from a local exhaust shop...if ur running mad boost and u have a bridgeport and what not then u would prolly need a 3 inch or 3.5 inch diam exhaust but for now i guess 2.5 will be perfect for the few mods u do...

peace,
Gufran
